The teacher couple Gangadhar and Ajitha and their children had gone out on Wednesday and the thief saw an opportunity. The thief broke the bars on a window of the residence so he could get in without tampering the lock on the front door, as that would attract attention.

Upon entering and thoroughly searching the house he found nothing valuable to steal. Instead of giving up, the thief decided to take advantage of the fact that he was in a house well stocked with groceries.

He locked the front door from inside and set to work in the kitchen. He broke a couple of eggs, threw some vegetables in, whipped himself an omelette and ate it. He then rounded off the meal with some cold fruit from the refrigerator and left the house the way he entered - through the window.

When the family members returned, they couldn't get into their house because the thief forgot to unlock the door he had bolted from the inside. The couple managed to get in, saw the remnants of the burglar's meal and understood what had happened.

Far from being annoyed, Gangadhar and Ajitha were amused. Still, on the urging of neighbours, they registered a police complaint. The Badiadka police are now on the lookout for this epicurean thief.

Mangaluru, Dec 20: City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy has issued a high-alert warning to vehicle owners regarding a surge in cyber fraud targeting those looking to pay traffic violation fines. Fraudsters are reportedly exploiting recent government discount schemes on traffic penalties to deceive citizens.

The Scam: How Fraudsters Strike

Criminals are using SMS, WhatsApp, and social media to circulate suspicious links and APK files (Android application packages). They claim these apps allow users to pay e-challans at a discount.

•    Device Hacking: Downloading these unauthorized apps gives hackers full access to the victim's smartphone.

•    Financial Theft: Once the phone is compromised, fraudsters intercept OTPs and personal data to drain bank accounts.

•    Phishing Sites: Fake websites mimicking official portals are also being used to harvest banking credentials.

Already, two residents within Mangaluru city limits have reported significant financial losses after falling victim to these fraudulent apps.
