Bengaluru: Dec 8: Stumped by a fake WhatsApp message mischievously attributed to him, Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy clarified in a Facebook post on Monday that he had not delivered any such speech on Prime Minister Modi.

Murthy had learnt about the WhatsApp message being widely circulated from his friends.

He then chose to clear the air by posting this on his Facebook page: “I have been receiving several messages from friends and colleagues about a supposed speech with my name on it. I am told this has been circulating over WhatsApp. Since I am not able to reply to everybody individually, I am posting my response here. While I have respect for the PM, as evinced in my various interviews over the past couple of years, this message/ speech is fake. This style of prose is not reflective of how I think, write, or speak.”

The fake WhatsApp post was in praise of Prime Minister Modi. Interestingly, Murthy’s name had figured in a fake post even in July. He had then taken to Twitter to clarify on that post linked to Parsees. He had tweeted on July 12:?“I am told a fake speech being circulated on Parsees on my name. I am not the author. I have respect for Parsees, Ambani, Birla and Mittal.”

Murthy had recently expressed concerns that there is considerable fear in the minds of minority in India and said that the governments should bring back the sense of confidence in them.

"I am not a politician, I am not interested in politics, therefore, I don't want to comment on that but the reality today is that there is considerable fear in the minds of minority in India," he said.

He said that there was also "considerable fear" in the minds of people of one region living in another region.

No country, the IT veteran said, has ever made steady economic progress unless "there is no distrust, there is no fear, unless the majority community doesn't oppress the minority community, doesn't want the minority community to do what it wants etc."

Mangaluru, Dec 20: City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy has issued a high-alert warning to vehicle owners regarding a surge in cyber fraud targeting those looking to pay traffic violation fines. Fraudsters are reportedly exploiting recent government discount schemes on traffic penalties to deceive citizens.

The Scam: How Fraudsters Strike

Criminals are using SMS, WhatsApp, and social media to circulate suspicious links and APK files (Android application packages). They claim these apps allow users to pay e-challans at a discount.

•    Device Hacking: Downloading these unauthorized apps gives hackers full access to the victim's smartphone.

•    Financial Theft: Once the phone is compromised, fraudsters intercept OTPs and personal data to drain bank accounts.

•    Phishing Sites: Fake websites mimicking official portals are also being used to harvest banking credentials.

Already, two residents within Mangaluru city limits have reported significant financial losses after falling victim to these fraudulent apps.
