Bengaluru, May 8: The police have arrested the wife of the newlywed Bengaluru techie Yamaka Gowri Sankara Rao, who was recently hacked to death recently in Andhra Pradesh.

The Vizianagaram Police, who were investigating a murder case, have confirmed that the cold-blooded murder was planned by the victim’s wife.

Rao, a native of Chittapallivalasa village in Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh was a techie in Bengaluru and got married to Saraswathi on April 28. Saraswathi is from Kadakella, a nearby village.

According to Deepika Patil, Assistant Superintendent of Police, on May 7, the couple planned a one-day trip to Parvathipuram in neighbouring Vizianagaram district on their bike. During the day, Rao got his bike serviced and the couple also bought some jewellery.

While returning to Chittapallivalasa, around 7.30 pm, Saraswathi asked Rao to stop the bike near the ITDA park at Totapalli. Rao, who went to attend nature's call, was attacked by a few assailants with an iron rod, killing him on the spot. The assailants fled with some jewellery.

The police registered a case and began investigating. The turned suspicious on realising that the bride was left unscathed and she still had some of the jewellery.

Their suspicion grew as the woman began giving different answers at different times. On further interrogation, she confessed to the crime.

The police said Saraswathi never liked Rao and had sought the help of her friend Siva to get him murdered after the marriage. Siva, in turn, took the help of a local rowdy-sheeter Gopi, who executed the plan.

Mangaluru, Dec 15: Air India Express has announced that it will resume direct flight services between Mangaluru and Muscat from March 2026, restoring an important international air link for passengers from the coastal region.

Airport authorities said the service will operate twice a week—on Sundays and Tuesdays—from March 1. The initial flights are scheduled on March 3, 8 and 10, followed by March 15 and 17, with the same operating pattern to continue thereafter. The flight duration is approximately three hours and 25 minutes.

The Mangaluru–Muscat route was earlier operated under the 2025 summer schedule, with services beginning on July 14. At that time, Air India Express had operated four flights a week before suspending the service.

Officials said the summer schedule will come into effect from March 29, after which changes in flight timings and departure schedules from Mangaluru are expected. Passengers have been advised to check the latest schedules while planning their travel.

The resumption of direct flights to Muscat is expected to significantly benefit expatriates, business travellers and others, further strengthening Mangaluru’s air connectivity with the Gulf region.
