Mangaluru, Jun 13: The Mangaluru City Corporation, which has nearly Rs 100 crore in its Premium FAR (Floor Area Ratio) fund in its kitty, has made a fresh appeal to the state government to allow the civic body to utilize the same for the construction of footpaths and drainages.

MCC Mayor K Harinath said: "The city corporation had decided to use the Premium FAR Fund for the development of footpaths and drainages in the city. The resolution adopted in this regard was sent to the government, but it has not been approved.”
“Hence, we have requested chief minister Siddaramaiah and urban development minister Vinaykumar Sorake to relax the norms," he added.
Premium FAR is a fund collected through penalty from the builders who violate building norms. As per the rules, the premium FAR should be used exclusively for the widening of one particular road where a building violation has taken place and penalty is collected from the builder for the same.
Thereafter, the funds can be utilised for widening other roads. It was decided at a council meeting on May 28, 2015 that premium FAR fund should be utilised for various other developments rather than reserving it only for road widening as mandated in rules. The proposal was approved by the development cell of the corporation and at present, it is pending before the government, Harinath said.
