Mangaluru, Jul 12: Medical education minister Sharanprakash R Patil has promised to examine the proposal to set up a government medical college in Mangaluru city or other part of Dakshina Kannada district.

“The government has already set up medical colleges in 16 districts under the policy of setting up one government medical college in each revenue district. It will examine the feasibility of setting up medical colleges in other districts including Dakshina Kannada in the forthcoming academic year,” he said.
At present there are government medical colleges in Bengaluru, Mysuru, Hubballi, Ballari, Mandya, Hassan, Shivamogga, Raichur, Belagavi, Bidar, Kalaburagi, Gadag, Koppal, Kodagu, Karwar and Chamarajanagar.
Besides, new medical colleges have been sanctioned for Tumakuru, Chitradurga, Bagalkote, Haveri, Yadagir and Chikkaballapur during 2014-15.
