Woman arrested for allegedly leaking SSLC question papers

Hassan, Feb 13: The Arkalgud police have arrested a D-group employee from a government college on the charge of leaking the question papers of the SSLC preparatory examinations. The accused allegedly began doing so two years ago to help her son clear the SSLC exam then. She has leaked question papers of the preparatory examination many times since then.

Following a complaint filed by the Block Education Officer (BEO) of Arkalgud, Savithramma, a D-group employee of the Government Junior College for Girls, was arrested on Saturday. She allegedly leaked the paper during the district-level SSLC preparatory examination last month. The accused, in her statement to the police, reportedly admitted to have committed the crime, and stated that she had done this often in the last two years.

G.S. Nagesh, the BEO, said that the district-level SSLC preparatory exam was conducted in January. The District Association of Principals and Headmasters prepare the question papers and circulate them. “During the exam, it came to light that someone was selling photocopies of the question papers. The police were the first to notice a lot of activity at photocopying shops around exam time,” he said.

Based on the information, the BEO filed a complaint on January 21. During the investigation, it was found that Savithramma allegedly took copies of the question papers from the vice-principal Srinivasa’s office and circulated them for money.

The police clarified that there was no information about her involvement in leaking question papers of examinations conducted by the Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board. The BEO has sought direction from the Deputy Director of Public Instruction for disciplinary action against the employee.

Udupi, Dec 15: What was meant to be a post-pilgrimage gathering turned tragic in Padukere village of Brahmavar taluk, Udupi district, late Sunday night, when a clash among youths escalated into a fatal assault, leaving one man dead.

The victim has been identified as 30-year-old Santosh Mogaveera, a resident of Padukere.

According to preliminary information, the incident took place during a late-night drinking party involving a group of local youths who had recently returned after completing their pilgrimage to the Sabarimala shrine. An argument reportedly broke out among the group and soon escalated into a violent confrontation.

During the ensuing brawl, Santosh Mogaveera was allegedly assaulted and collapsed at the spot after sustaining serious injuries. He was rushed by local residents to a private hospital in Brahmavar, where doctors declared him dead.

On receiving information, senior police officials, including Brahmavar Circle Inspector Gopikrishna, Kota Police Sub-Inspector Praveen Kumar T, Station ASI Manthesh Jabagoudar, and head constables Pradeep and Ashok, visited the spot and conducted an inspection.

Police have taken four youths into custody in connection with the incident. A case has been registered at the Kota police station, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events leading to the death.
