Mangalore, Oct 30: The women, who had accused an associate professor of commerce department in Mangalore University of “raping her” after the false promise of marriage, staged a silent protest on Wednesday demanding “justice”.
On a day of high drama on the Mangalore University campus, a woman staged a protest against an associate professor in the department of commerce, saying he had raped her on the false promise of marriage.
However, late in the evening, she called off the protest after the registrar and the police assured to look into the matter in 10 days. The associate professor Dr Vedava was also present at the reconciliation meeting.
During the protest, she held a placard that read: “Dr Vedava, You have cheated me. You have done injustice to me and I want justice from you.”
Later in the day, Vedava reportedly agreed to marry the woman. “Associate Professor P Vedava has agreed to marry her if she withdraws the complaint. In the presence of Konaje police, negotiations will be held on Wednesday night,” a university official said.
Earlier, Registrar Prof P S Yadapadithaya said that the police would look into the issue as a case had already been filed.
“The allegation of sexual assault is baseless. It was true that we had exchanged SMSes. The allegation has hurt me,” Vedava had stated in his reply.
