Work only for Hindus; people with topi, burkha shouldn’t come to my office: BJP MLA justifies his statement

Vijayapura (Bijapur), Jun 7: Basanagouda Patil Yatnal, BJP MLA for Vijayapura, has strongly justifies his hate-filled statement against Muslims in constituency and reiterated that elected representatives in the Hindu country should work for Hindus.

A video of Yatnal instructing corporators to work only for Hindus, who have voted for him, and not for Muslims, has gone viral on social media.

“I had called all corporators and have told them that they should work for Hindus and not Muslims...who have voted for me in Bijapur,” Yatnal is clearly heard saying in the video, to which the crowd responded by saying “Hindus”.

“I had said no to Saabru (Muslims) in the beginning itself...I had instructed my people that those with topi (cap) and burkha should not come and stand in my office or beside me,” he said.

Yatnal had made these statements at a function on June 4 in Vijayapura. In a press conference, Yatnal defended his statement, asking if it was “wrong to speak in favour of Hindus?”

Yatnal had also served as a Union Minister of State for Textiles in from 1 July 2002 to 8 September 2003, and union Minister of State for Railways from 8 September 2003 to 16 May 2004 when Atal Bihari Vajpayee was prime minister of India.

He had represented the Bijapur constituency in 13th Lok Sabha and 14th Lok Sabha. He joined Janata Dal (Secular) on 22 January 2010. He later returned to Bharatiya Janata Party on 17 November 2013. In recently polls he won from Vijayapur Assembly constituency.

Since the early 1990s he is serving as the President of the prestigious Shri Siddeshwar Samsthe, (a Trust managing many educational institutions and Shri Siddheshwar Temple in Vijayapura).

Mangaluru, Dec 15: Air India Express has announced that it will resume direct flight services between Mangaluru and Muscat from March 2026, restoring an important international air link for passengers from the coastal region.

Airport authorities said the service will operate twice a week—on Sundays and Tuesdays—from March 1. The initial flights are scheduled on March 3, 8 and 10, followed by March 15 and 17, with the same operating pattern to continue thereafter. The flight duration is approximately three hours and 25 minutes.

The Mangaluru–Muscat route was earlier operated under the 2025 summer schedule, with services beginning on July 14. At that time, Air India Express had operated four flights a week before suspending the service.

Officials said the summer schedule will come into effect from March 29, after which changes in flight timings and departure schedules from Mangaluru are expected. Passengers have been advised to check the latest schedules while planning their travel.

The resumption of direct flights to Muscat is expected to significantly benefit expatriates, business travellers and others, further strengthening Mangaluru’s air connectivity with the Gulf region.
