Yeddyrappa, Deshpande likely to be booked under anti-corruption act

Bengaluru, Feb 19: Higher Education Minister R.V. Deshpande and the former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa are likely to be booked by the Lokayukta police under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, in connection with deletion of land from acquisition for the IT corridor in the Varthur–Whitefield area.

This follows Lokayukta Special Court judge V.G. Bopaiah on Wednesday ordering an inquiry into the case, while disposing of a private complaint filed by one Vasudeva Reddy, a resident of Bellandur, on July 4, 2013.

Superintendent of Police (Lokayukta Bengaluru) Sonia Narang said that after they receive a copy of the complaint and the court orders, they would move swiftly to register a FIR against the 10 people named in the private complaint.

The complaint alleges that Mr. Deshpande, who was the then Industries Minister, deleted selected land from the 500 acres notified for the IT corridor in 2004. The government had issued a preliminary notification for 500 acres for the IT corridor in 2000 and later issued a final notification for just 434 acres.

In a specific instance, Mithilesh Garg and his relatives, gutka entrepreneurs from New Delhi, purchased agricultural land in the area just before the notification for the IT corridor. However, the land was taken back by the Revenue Department for violation of the Karnataka

Land Reforms Act and the land was part of the final notification for the IT corridor. However, the individuals turned up claiming to be promoters of Vikas Telecom, Supreme Build Cap and Royal Fragrances Pvt. Ltd., proposing to build IT parks. KIADB re-allotted the 106.25 acres that was taken back from them.

The complaint also lists Mr. Yeddyurappa who, when he was Deputy Chief Minister in 2006, allegedly got 8.25 acres of land deleted from preliminary notification in Devarabisanahalli.

The complaint also names Rajya Sabha MP Kupendra Reddy as an accused as the complaint claims his company encroached upon the raja kaluve on the land allotted to his firm, EcoSpace, to build an IT park in the IT corridor.

Mangaluru, Dec 20: City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy has issued a high-alert warning to vehicle owners regarding a surge in cyber fraud targeting those looking to pay traffic violation fines. Fraudsters are reportedly exploiting recent government discount schemes on traffic penalties to deceive citizens.

The Scam: How Fraudsters Strike

Criminals are using SMS, WhatsApp, and social media to circulate suspicious links and APK files (Android application packages). They claim these apps allow users to pay e-challans at a discount.

• Device Hacking: Downloading these unauthorized apps gives hackers full access to the victim's smartphone.

• Financial Theft: Once the phone is compromised, fraudsters intercept OTPs and personal data to drain bank accounts.

• Phishing Sites: Fake websites mimicking official portals are also being used to harvest banking credentials.

Already, two residents within Mangaluru city limits have reported significant financial losses after falling victim to these fraudulent apps.
