The bench, headed by Justice Swatanter Kumar, agreed to defer the hearing and asked the ministry to submit its report before January 20. Earlier, the NGT had asked the ministry to constitute a committee comprising its officials and representatives from the Karnataka government and petitioners and submit a report after visiting the project site. The petitioners alleged that the project, which is coming up near Sakleshpur in Hassan district, will damage forests and ecology in the Western Ghats.
