Young astrologer from Shimoga murdered in Mangalore

Mangalore, Oct 17: A young man from Shimoga claiming to be an astrologer, was found murdered in Mangalore city limits.

The deceased has been identified as 22-year-old Suresh, hailing from Sagar in Shimoga.

His body was found lying on the lane running adjacent to a building complex near Nehru Maidan on Wednesday. Suresh had reportedly checked into a room he had rented in the same building along with two others on Sunday.

It is said that the security guard of the building had found the body of Suresh and alerted others.

It has been learnt that Suresh was staying in a rented room in Singala Chambers with two of his companions. He claimed that he and his companions made astrological predictions.

As advised by the staff in the building, Suresh and his two companions shifted to another larger room on Monday to join four other occupants.

On Wednesday, the security guard had left the building in the evening and returned around 9 p.m. While checking the surroundings of the building he saw a body lying limp in the lane and immediately informed the owners of the building.

Later it was found that Suresh had been murdered, as his body bore a deep wound on the head. He is suspected to have been struck hard on his head with a heavy object which resulted in lot of bleeding.

The police are investigating the case and interrogating the other occupants who shared the room with Suresh.

A case has been registered in this regard at Bunder police station.

Udupi, Dec 15: What was meant to be a post-pilgrimage gathering turned tragic in Padukere village of Brahmavar taluk, Udupi district, late Sunday night, when a clash among youths escalated into a fatal assault, leaving one man dead.

The victim has been identified as 30-year-old Santosh Mogaveera, a resident of Padukere.

According to preliminary information, the incident took place during a late-night drinking party involving a group of local youths who had recently returned after completing their pilgrimage to the Sabarimala shrine. An argument reportedly broke out among the group and soon escalated into a violent confrontation.

During the ensuing brawl, Santosh Mogaveera was allegedly assaulted and collapsed at the spot after sustaining serious injuries. He was rushed by local residents to a private hospital in Brahmavar, where doctors declared him dead.

On receiving information, senior police officials, including Brahmavar Circle Inspector Gopikrishna, Kota Police Sub-Inspector Praveen Kumar T, Station ASI Manthesh Jabagoudar, and head constables Pradeep and Ashok, visited the spot and conducted an inspection.

Police have taken four youths into custody in connection with the incident. A case has been registered at the Kota police station, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events leading to the death.
