Bengaluru, Sept 12: A 31-year-old hardware engineer succumbed to injuries on Tuesday nearly a week after an employee at a cyber cafe allegedly stabbed him with a screwdriver on his head following a heated argument.

The victim, Guru Prashanth, was a resident of Banashankari III Stage. He had gone to the cyber cafe last Thursday night to take some printouts.

Police have arrested the cybercafé employee, Karthik S, 21, from Srinagar. “Karthik confessed to the crime and said he stabbed Prashanth with a screwdriver. Prashanth wanted colour prints of his résumé, but Karthik allegedly took out a black-and-white one. Prashanth questioned the lapse and alleged the accused was demanding Rs 10 more than the price elsewhere. It led to arguments between the duo. Karthik allegedly picked up a screwdriver and stabbed Prashanth in the left ear,” a police officer said quoting Karthik’s statement.

Guru Prashanth collapsed outside the café after attack. Passers-by rushed the profusely bleeding engineer to Radhakrishna Hospital, from where he was shifted to another hospital. He succumbed to his injuries in the wee hours ofTuesday. The Girinagar police have charged Karthik with murder.

Guru Prashanth was a system administrator in a reputed Information Technology company in Bellandur and had got married recently.

Less than 12 hours after he succumbed, his wife Mamatha delivered their child, a son. She is not aware of her husband’s demise. Incidentally, when Mamatha went into labour on Tuesday morning, she was also taken to Radhakrishna Hospital.
