Youth confesses he murdered Kakkinje elderly couple for gain

Mangaluru, Jan 16: The Dakshina Kannada district police has claimed to have solved a double murder of an elderly couple at Kakkinje in Belthangady taluk.

The police on Saturday produced the murder accused, identified as Ravi alias Raju (26), a resident of Kallavaddara in Gadag, before media at the office of superintendent of police in the city.

“It was a murder for gain,” said Dr Sharanappa SD, the SP of DK and added that Raju, the main culprit was arrested by the police on Friday and that he confessed to the crime during interrogation.

It could be recalled here that Verghese (94) was found dead 100 metres away from his house while his wife, Elikutty (85), was found dead inside the house at Kakkinje on January 11. The SP had formed a team under ASP Rahul to nab the accused.

The SP told media persons that Ravi had visited the house of victims on January 10 with the intention of robbery. When the owner of the house came out he hit him and strangulated him to death. Later, he entered the house and murdered the woman before decamping with the gold ornaments.

The primary investigation has revealed that more than 15 cases were registered against Ravi in Hubballi and Gadag districts and different courts had issued body warrant against him in eight cases.

He should have murdered the family members of the Judges and lawyers who were his saviors for more than 8 occasions.

Udupi, Dec 15: What was meant to be a post-pilgrimage gathering turned tragic in Padukere village of Brahmavar taluk, Udupi district, late Sunday night, when a clash among youths escalated into a fatal assault, leaving one man dead.

The victim has been identified as 30-year-old Santosh Mogaveera, a resident of Padukere.

According to preliminary information, the incident took place during a late-night drinking party involving a group of local youths who had recently returned after completing their pilgrimage to the Sabarimala shrine. An argument reportedly broke out among the group and soon escalated into a violent confrontation.

During the ensuing brawl, Santosh Mogaveera was allegedly assaulted and collapsed at the spot after sustaining serious injuries. He was rushed by local residents to a private hospital in Brahmavar, where doctors declared him dead.

On receiving information, senior police officials, including Brahmavar Circle Inspector Gopikrishna, Kota Police Sub-Inspector Praveen Kumar T, Station ASI Manthesh Jabagoudar, and head constables Pradeep and Ashok, visited the spot and conducted an inspection.

Police have taken four youths into custody in connection with the incident. A case has been registered at the Kota police station, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events leading to the death.
