Bengaluru, Dec 23: A 24-year-old youth from Nagaland, who allegeldy posed as an income-tax officer and swindled a businessman of Rs 2.2 lakh, was arrested on Wednesday.

John Kajiche, a resident of Ejipura and from Dimapur, Nagaland, called a resident of Nobo Nagar on Bannerghatta Road on December 14 and introduced himself as an income-tax officer. John asked him to click on a link sent to his mobile to update his income-tax account. Without cross-checking, the victim clicked the link which sent an OTP approvinig a bank transaction to the fraudster.
The victim realised he had been cheated when he got a message that Rs 2.2 lakh had been debited from his account. He approached cyber crime police who confirmed that the money was transferred to John’s bank account and tracked him down using his mobile number and arrested him.
The accused confessed to the crime and said he worked for another man.
