Managluru, Dec 16: Accusing Dr Zakir Naik, an authority on comparative religion and founder of Islamic Research Foundation, of provoking people and insulting “gods” of Hindus, two saffron groups have urged the Karnataka government and Dakshina Kannada district administration not allow the former to enter Mangaluru.

Ever since the South Karnataka Salafi Movement announced to host an inter-faith peace conference at Nehru Maidan in Mangaluru inviting Dr Naik on January 3, the saffron outfits have been warning the administration of massive protests and breach of law and order. However, neither the government nor the administration has formally responded to the threats by fringe groups.

In a joint press conference on Wednesday in the city the local leaders of Vishva Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal said that the influential televangelist was testing the patience of Hindus and that he would face the wrath of Hindus if administration facilitates his scheduled event in Mangaluru.

Murlikrishna Hasantadka, divisional coordinator, Bajrang Dal, said that apart from massive agitation, his outfit would fight against Dr Naik legally too. He said that already four complaints have been filed against Dr Naik and more complaints would be filed in different police stations of Dakshina Kannada in coming days.

He went on to warn that if the state government allows Dr Naik’s entry into Karnataka it will be another major blunder after the violence that erupted across Karnataka following the ruling party’s decision to observe Tipu Jayanti.

He said that VHP international working president Praveen Togadia will be visiting Karnataka on January 6 and he would Mangaluru and Kodagu, the two places that had witnessed violence after Tipu Jayanti celebration.

Mangaluru, Dec 20: City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy has issued a high-alert warning to vehicle owners regarding a surge in cyber fraud targeting those looking to pay traffic violation fines. Fraudsters are reportedly exploiting recent government discount schemes on traffic penalties to deceive citizens.

The Scam: How Fraudsters Strike

Criminals are using SMS, WhatsApp, and social media to circulate suspicious links and APK files (Android application packages). They claim these apps allow users to pay e-challans at a discount.

•    Device Hacking: Downloading these unauthorized apps gives hackers full access to the victim's smartphone.

•    Financial Theft: Once the phone is compromised, fraudsters intercept OTPs and personal data to drain bank accounts.

•    Phishing Sites: Fake websites mimicking official portals are also being used to harvest banking credentials.

Already, two residents within Mangaluru city limits have reported significant financial losses after falling victim to these fraudulent apps.
