Tumakuru, Sept 1: BJP leader and former minister Sogadu Shivanna on Saturday demanded that police should register suo motu cases against Food and Civil Supplies Minister B Z Zameer Ahmed Khan for his alleged communal statement.

Mr Khan, who also holds Minority and Wakf portfolios, had recently stated that those Muslims who voted for the BJP were not genuine Muslims.

Addressing a press meet here today Mr Shivanna said: "Mr Khan is a communal element. He belongs to Muhammad Ali Jinnah clan. His statements affect harmony in the society. There is a need to curb such elements from making irresponsible statement affecting country's unity. The police should act voluntarily and book him."

"We should not affect harmony in the society. There is a need to preserve the Hindu culture or we will be spoiled," he added.

"I have requested MLA Basanagounda Patil Yatnal to rake up the issue on the floor of the house in the Assembly," he said.

"Nobody should affect the bond between Hindus and Muslims. It is improper to continue him as the minister, he added.
