Bengaluru, Jun 20: Food and Civil Supplies Minister B Z Zameer Ahmed Khan has hit out at ministry aspirant Congress MLA Tanveer Sait over the latter’s remarks against him.

Former minister Sait, who represents Narasimharaja seat in the assembly, recently criticized the party leadership for providing ministerial berths to Mr Khan and U T Khader and claimed that both the Ministers have no leadership qualities to lead the minority community in the State.

Mr Khan, who hopped from JD(S) to Congress and registered a thumping victory in recent polls, on Tuesday questioned Sait’s stature as a Muslim leader in the party, saying that the high command would have picked Sait for the Cabinet if he really was the face of the community.

The minister also threw a challenge at Sait on his popularity in his own constituency, Narasimharaja in Mysuru.

“I will visit his constituency. Let him also come. We will see who manages to mobilise a large crowd. Then, he will realise who is the leader,” he told reporters on seeking his reaction to Sait’s recent comment that Khan was unfit to represent the Muslim community.

“The Congress has done a proper survey of leaders and selected able leaders to become ministers. This has obviously upset leaders like Roshan Baig and Sait,” he said. Khan denied Sait’s charge that he tried to defeat him in the elections.

The minister said he had sought a big car for his use from the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (DPAR).

“I am used to travelling in a big car. The Toyota Innova car given by the DPAR is a small one. It will be good if the Toyota Fortuner that Siddaramaiah (former chief minister) was using is given to me,” he said.

Mangaluru: Public transport in Mangaluru is set for a state-led transformation as the government moves to deploy 100 new electric govt buses to replace unreliable private services. The initiative aims to provide a dependable alternative to private operators who have been frequently "cutting trips," leaving thousands of commuters stranded.

The announcement was made by Deputy Commissioner and MCC Administrator Darshan HV during a public phone-in session. The move specifically targets routes where private bus service has become erratic, ensuring that citizens no longer have to rely on a fluctuating private sector for their daily commute.

Restoring the Govt Presence

The transport crisis was brought to the forefront by Ramayya, a resident of Bajal, who highlighted a growing trend of private buses skipping morning and night trips. With the previous KSRTC (govt) services discontinued, residents have been left without a fallback option.

To fix this, the DC confirmed that the PM-eBus Sewa Scheme will bring 100 government-owned electric buses to the city:

•    Phased Deployment: The first 50 of the new 100 government buses are scheduled to arrive by March 2026.

•    State Infrastructure: Two new government depots, including one at Mudipu, are being prepared for operations.

•    Recruitment: The state has already begun training a new batch of government bus drivers to ensure the fleet is operational the moment it arrives.
