Bengaluru: Van driver carrying new notes to ATM flees with Rs 1.37 crore

Bengaluru, Now 23: A van driver carrying new currency notes to ATM has allegedly fled away with Rs 1.37 crore in Bengaluru. The van was carrying cash to Bank of India's ATM on Wednesday afternoon.

The cash van driver was supposed to reach to an ATM on KG Road in Bengaluru, which was running dry since the last couple of days. The cash van belonged to Bank of India's Bengaluru branch where a large number of customers were stranded to get cash since demonetisation.

After there were reports of the driver fleeing away with cash, security has been beefed up in areas close to KG Road and several existing routes from Bengaluru.

There are chances that the cash van driver may flee with the heavy cash (mostly in lower denomination of Rs 100, Rs 500 and Rs 2000 new notes) may try to leave the city. A team of Bengaluru police Crime Branch and the Anti-Terrorist Squad had already launched an investigation and further probe is on.

Since demonetisation came into effect, there is a cash crunch across the country especially in rural areas where ATMS are not found in 16 km radius. Due to the cash crunch robberies in large number has been taking place across the country.

On Tuesday Rs 4 lakh were stolen from a cash van in broad daylight when it was parked at the ATM pf ICICI bank situated at Alpana petrol pump under the Manglwara police station on Tuesday evening.

The police informed that the guard of the ATM was standing outside and the driver was sitting in the van. Two persons, were involved in filling the cash in the ATM and after returning they found that the door of the van open and Rs 4 lakh was missing from there. The guards said that they had locked the door before entering the ATM.

After the incident a case under section 379 of IPC have been registered against the unidentified persons. the cops have also started collecting the CCTV footages from the shop and from other cameras in the vicinity. According to reports, the area where the money was stolen is a densely populated one and cops are probing whether some locals may have been involved for the robbery.

Almost 15 days have been passed after Narendra Modi stopped Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes. Since then people across the country are running from pole to post to get their hands on new notes or notes with smaller denomination.

Melkar (Bantwal): The 9th Annual Day celebration of SMR Public School, titled “EXCELLENTIA”, was held on December 15 with great enthusiasm and dignity, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s journey towards academic excellence and holistic development.

The programme was inaugurated by Dr. U. T. Iftikar Ali. The chief guests were Dr. Akhtar Hussain, Mr. P. Moosabba Beary, Mr. Zakaria Jokattre, and Dr. T. M. Abdul Rahuf—whose inspiring addresses motivated the students and appreciated the school’s contributions to education.

Mr. Abdul Nasir, Mr. Ibrahim Gadiyar, Mr. Razak Golthamajal, Mr. Sali Koya, Mr. Arshad Hussain, Mr. Ismail Balanoor, Mr. Feroz Bawa, Mr. Sahul Hameed, Mr. Abubakkar, Mr. Hameed K. Mani, Mr. Abdul Majeed (Principal, Melkar Women’s College), and Mr. Abdul Lathief (Former Principal, Melkar Women’s College) were the guests of honour.

The Annual Report was presented by the Headmistress, Ms. Fathimathul Zaheera, highlighting the school’s achievements and progress during the academic year. The Presidential Address was delivered by the Chairman of SMR Public School, Dr. Haji S. M. Rasheed, who emphasised the vital role of education in shaping students’ futures and stressed the importance of discipline, dedication, and consistent effort in achieving 100 per cent academic results.

Secretary of SMR Public School, Mr. Rifath Ahmed, and PTA President, Mr. Sandeep Kumar, were also present on the occasion.
