'Charlie Bear' arrives in Mangalore to promote charity

Mangalore, May 11: Having started its relay ride in the United States in June 2013, Charlie Bear – fondly dubbed as the world's most travelled teddy bear – was brought to Mangalore city by a group of motorcycle riders from Goa via Hubli and relayed it to a team of riders in Mangalore.

As part of the relay ride of Charlie Bear across the world by World Wide Relay Riders 2013-14, the teddy bear is being passed on to group of motorcycle riders in cities with the hope of raising funds for children's charities.

The bear was brought to the Indian subcontinent through Assam in March 2014, and after being taken to iconic places in Guwahati, Cherrapunjee and Shillong, it was relayed on to groups of motorcycle riders in Mumbai, Goa and Hubli, before being brought to Mangalore on Sunday,

One of the riders in the group that will escort Charlie Bear from Mangalore to Calicut (Kozhikode) on Monday, Srinath K K told Coastaldigest.com that the teddy bear, a symbol of peace and goodwill, was a medium for the riders across countries to promote charity.

As part of the relay ride, the funds that have been collected by the team of motorcycle riders, a sum of over Rs 5,000, will be handed over to a local children's orphanage in Mangalore, he said.

On Monday, a group of riders led by Srinath, Shawn Fernandes, Shivprasad Shetty and Brijesh Khandige will depart from Mangalore to Calicut and pass on the teddy bear to another team of riders awaiting them.

After its arrival in Mangalore, the teddy bear was taken in a ride around the city by enthusiastic riders from local motorcycle clubs including the Bullet club, Jawa and Yezdi club, Rev Limiters, Pulsar Naked wolves, Team Zero Gravity, Super Souls and Dark Viperz, which culminated at Panambur beach in the evening.
