Setting a deadline of one week for the police to nab the culprits, the Samaj has warned of putting up a show of strength by organising a mammoth convention of 25,000 people, followed byVidhana Soudha Chalo' in the coming days.

Addressing the protest meet, organised opposite Gandhi Mantapa here, working president of Samaj, P?M?Khasim said, “While a mosque was stoned in Kushalnagar two months ago, a car belonging to a community leader was also damaged in stoning, yet there is no action by the district police. Saying that the police authorities have refused to give consent, thus thwarting their plans to organise a massive protest meet, Khasim saidWe were not born in?Pakistan, and have equal rights in India'.

Without taking names of any organisations, Khasim who likened the situation to attempts to stone honeycomb, warned against testing the patience of peace-loving community. He also expressed his anguish over District Minister M?R?Seetharam and?MLC?Veena Achaiah for not visiting the mosque even after several days of the incident.

Some of the agitators said the community will stay away during next general elections, as some of the Congress party leaders are refusing to sympathise with muslims. If situation remains the same, day would not be far when all the leaders from community serving in the party as office-bearers will step down from the same. Another leader Majeed alleged that the community is being denied of the right to hold peaceful protest.?If any attempts are made to dilute the movements, we will give a fitting reply.

Majeed also accused deputy commissioner of not even showing courtesy to speak, when they went to seek his permission for the protest. General secretary of Samaj K?H?Abdul Majeed suspected the handiwork of those who killed Mahatma Gandhi and litterateur M?M?Kalburgi, behind Qur'an incident.

Former MLA?K?M?Ibrahim said the struggle is aimed at forcing the police to arrest the miscreants behind the incidents, but not against any particular community or caste. City Municipal Council member Ameen Mohsin, Congress labour cell president V?P?Shashidhar, A?B?Ummar, K?A??Yaqub, Nasir Makki, Kunhi Abdulla, Abdul Rehman, Mansoor Napoklu, Hamsa Kottamudi, Khalid Hakattur among others were present.

What is the police force Feared off... instead of protecting the society they are supporting it for fear of their life and income... What a shame, it is better to live like a lion. When U have power , work for the TRUTH and help the needy and oppressed..

ALLAH (the creator of all that exists) says in the QURAN Fear Him. not his evil creation...

Prophet Muhammad pbuh said : Know that if all the people get together in order to benefit YOU with something, they will not be able to benefit you in anything except what ALLAH has decreed to YOU. And if they all get together in order to HARM YOU with something, they will not be able to HARM you in anything except what ALLAH has decreed for YOU. ....

Dont support the oppressors by keeping quiet...The authorities should protect the community & the societies when they see evil.. Work for TRUTH and stop keeping quiet and encouraging the evil.

Instead of begging JUSTICE from the Indian govt depts, it is better to pray Allah to give punishment to the trouble makers... Just look, what happened in Israel 2 weeks back... The northern city of Haifa was under fire due to forest fires and got intensified due to strong winds, About one lakh israelis had to run away from their houses... Pray for such calamities for those who are doing such things with Holy Quran.... Surely Allah will respond ..The Sanghis are inviting the muslims for trouble , and this muslim samaj people are adding fuel to the problems with such threats... If the mosques are getting damaged, get the mosque buildings INSURED ...

SHRIMP.jpg

Mangaluru, Dec 7: A rare bamboo shrimp has been rediscovered on mainland India more than 70 years after it was last reported, confirming for the first time the presence of Atyopsis spinipes in the country. The find was made by researchers from the Centre for Climate Change Studies at Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai, during surveys in Karnataka and Odisha.

The team — shrimp expert Dr S Prakash, PhD scholar K Kunjulakshmi, and Mangaluru-based researcher Maclean Antony Santos — combined field surveys, ecological assessments and DNA analysis to identify the elusive species. Their findings, published in Zootaxa, resolve decades of taxonomic confusion stemming from a 1951 report that misidentified the species as Atyopsis moluccensis without strong evidence.

The shrimp has now been confirmed at two locations: the Mulki–Pavanje estuary near Mangaluru and the Kuakhai River in Bhubaneswar. Historical specimens from the Andaman Islands, previously labelled as A. moluccensis, were also found to be misidentified and actually belong to A. spinipes.

The rediscovery began after an aquarium hobbyist in Odisha spotted a shrimp in 2022, prompting systematic surveys across Udupi, Karwar and Mangaluru. Four female specimens were collected in Mulki and one in Odisha, all genetically matching.

Researchers warn the species may exist in very small, vulnerable populations as freshwater habitats face increasing pressure from pollution, sand mining and infrastructure development. All verified specimens have been deposited with the Zoological Survey of India for future reference.

Mangaluru, Dec 15: Air India Express has announced that it will resume direct flight services between Mangaluru and Muscat from March 2026, restoring an important international air link for passengers from the coastal region.

Airport authorities said the service will operate twice a week—on Sundays and Tuesdays—from March 1. The initial flights are scheduled on March 3, 8 and 10, followed by March 15 and 17, with the same operating pattern to continue thereafter. The flight duration is approximately three hours and 25 minutes.

The Mangaluru–Muscat route was earlier operated under the 2025 summer schedule, with services beginning on July 14. At that time, Air India Express had operated four flights a week before suspending the service.

Officials said the summer schedule will come into effect from March 29, after which changes in flight timings and departure schedules from Mangaluru are expected. Passengers have been advised to check the latest schedules while planning their travel.

The resumption of direct flights to Muscat is expected to significantly benefit expatriates, business travellers and others, further strengthening Mangaluru’s air connectivity with the Gulf region.
