Bhatkal, Dec 8: Honnavar police in Uttara Kannada district have arrested a person with Rs 37.78 lakh unaccounted cash.
According to Honnavar police sub-inspector, the accused was carrying Rs 32 lakh in Rs 2,000 and Rs 5 lakh in Rs 100 notes. The police also seized the car which was used for transporting the amount.
The police said during interrogation, the accused told them that he was taking the money to Ajmer in Rajasthan, but did not reveal where it come from and who is behind the act. The seized cash has been handed over to the income tax officials and further inquiry is on, they said.
This is second such incident reporting in the district. A sum of Rs 35 lakh of Rs 2,000 notes were seized in Bhatkal on November 29 and five people, including a Congress leader, was arrested.
