Mangalore, November 23: A poor family lost its house to a fire Wednesday morning at Attavar in the city.
The total loss has been estimated at Rs 40,000. No causalities or injuries were reported.
The fire broke out in the two-roomed house belonging to a daily wage worker Gunkar, when there was no one inside it.
Gunkar was living in the house along with his wife and three children.
It is suspected that some miscreants might have set ablaze the house with a bad intention.
The possibilities of short circuit and cylinder blast have been ruled out as the house neither has power supply nor cooking gas.
The house owner has expressed suspicion on his neighbour, with whom he was fighting a case related to land encroachment. “They might have set ablaze the house to destroy the documents related to land”, said Gunkar.
Fire department personnel rushed to the spot and doused the fire within a half an hour.
