Mumbai, Dec 21: If reports are to be believed, Narendra Modi has reportedly threatened to quit from the Prime Minsiter's post if the RSS leaders do not stay away from controversies such as forced conversions and contentious statements.

"Modi, who held a meeting with the RSS leaders to express his disappointment, also said that he does not have greed to remain in the post if the image of the government is hampered by the leaders who keep making controversial remarks," a report in the Marathi newspaper Maharashtra Times said.

The RSS, thereafter, gave a green signal to the government to take action against leaders who indulge in making controversial statements, it said.

The report in a section of local media said that Modi has told the top brass of the RSS that the image of government is getting hampered because of the loose statements made by some their leaders. BJP leaders are of the opinion that the BJP-led NDA government has come to power on the issue of good governance, and by such controversial statements it is getting a colour of fanaticism, the report said.

Of late, leaders from RSS and other organisations, affiliated to the Sangh, have been giving controversial statements. "Modi has therefore expressed disappointment over such rabble rousers. The RSS, which has intervened into the matter has assured Modi that it will take stern action against the leaders who make controversial remarks," the reports said.

It further said that the effect was immediately witnessed wherein BJP president Amit Shah promptly suspended Rajasthan's state unit chief and Kota MLA Prahlad Gunjal for allegedly abusing and threatening a Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) for transfer of a male nurse.

Police had registered a FIR against Gunjal under various sections of IPC for intimidating and threatening the officer over phone. The BJP MLA from Kota (North) allegedly threatened Kota district CMHO Dr RN Yadav with dire consequences for not issuing transfer orders to the relative of a party worker.

However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's threat to quit is pretty much superficial, given that he is clearly enjoying his tryst with power, he would do well to focus solely on welfare issues and ensure right wing organisations are put back in their place.

Mangaluru, Jan 9: Karnataka BJP President Nalin Kumar Kateel accused the Congress of failing to respect the law of the land implemented in the interest of public health when the Covid-19 cases are on rise in the state.

He flayed the padaytra being organised by the Congress demanding the implementation of the Mekedatu project.

"The Congress has no respect for the law of the land. For the sake of leadership, KPCC President D K Shivakumar is carrying out a “padayatra drama.” The citizens of the state are watching the move of the Congress and will teach a befitting answer to the Congress in the coming days," he said.

"There is a case in the Supreme Court pertaining to the Mekedatu project. Once the case is solved, the state government will take steps towards the project. The Congress has no concern for the people of the state. Had they had any concern, they could have spoken to their counterparts in Tamil Nadu to solve the row over the Mekedatu project," said Kateel.

"Inspite of the fact over the case before the court, the Congress is organising a padayatra to give a wrong message to the people of the state. People are well aware of the political motive behind the padayatra. Why did the Congress-led government under the leadership of Siddaramaiah fail to move forward the Detailed project report (DPR) of Mekedatu between 2014 and 2018?," Kateel sought to know.

"The BJP government in the state had implemented a few rules to check the spread of Covid-19. Unfortunately, the leaders who ruled the state in the past are violating the rules. This shows the culture of the Congress. The Congress has no concern for the health of the people," Kateel said.

Some politicians are curse to us. That is the main reason, now a days decent people avoid joining politics. More and more criminals joining politics. Once in West Bengal, when CM of that state took precautionary measures, a politician gave a statement that, "Corona has gone. Mamata Banerjee is acting and imposing lockdown so that BJP can't organise meetings and rallies in the State. No one can stop us,"

Udupi, Jan 2: The row over wearing the headscarf at the Government PU College for Girl’s in Udupi is likely to continue as the authorities concerned have decided not to fulfil the demands of Muslim girl students who want to cover their heads inside the classroom.

Principal Rudre Gowda said that a meeting was held on Saturday in the presence of college betterment committee president MLA Raghupathi Bhat and other leaders.

Deputy director, department of PU education Maruthi, Udupi town police and parents of the students were present. The parents have reportedly agreed to the decision.

It was decided that the college has no problem with women wearing the headscarf or burkha when they are in the campus premises, but they will have to follow the college rules inside the classroom.

Campus Front of India representatives, along with the students and a few parents, held a press conference and demanded action against the principal, and said that the students must be allowed to wear the headscarf inside the classroom.

“The meeting held at the college on Saturday was one-sided. They did not pay heed to the request of parents. The issue was raised last year, but due to the lockdown, it was not taken up further. A memorandum on the issue was also handed over to the ADC and DDPU, recently,” they said.

Meanwhile, about six students maintained that they will enter the classroom only if they are allowed to wear the headscarf.
