Mangalore, November 7: “Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar, La Ilaha Illallahu Wallahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar Walillahil Hamd” (Allah is Great. There is no God, but Allah, Allah is Great, Allah is Great. To Him belongs all Praise) - the chants resonated across the districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi, as Muslims celebrated Eid-ul-Azha or Bakrid with traditional fervor and gaiety on Monday.

Thousands of Muslims across the twin districts thronged the masjids early in the day and offered Eid Namaz and the Qateebs exhorted the believers to follow the ideals of Prophet Ibrahim (Alaihissalam), who decided to sacrifice his son Hazrath Ismail (Alahissalam) as ordained by Allah.

The focal event In Mangalore was the Eid Namaz and Qutba at the Eidgah Masjid in Light House Hill, where thousands of Muslims, wearing new cloths, descended on the historic site early in the morning amidst light showers.

The overcast conditions did not deter people from attending the prayers at the Eidgah Masjid, but many had to soak in the light drizzle as there was not cover on the periphery of the masjid. However, with the conditions improving with time, the Namazis did not have a tough time.

In the absence of Qazi Twaqa Ahmed Musliyar, who is away on Haj pilgrimage, the Imam and Khateeb of Zeenath Baksh Jumma Masjid, Maulana Abdul Wahid Faizi led the prayers and delivered Eid Qutba.

At the Masjidunnoor in Hampankatta, Eid namaz was offered under the leadership of Maulavi Abdul Azeez, who subsequently delivered Eid Qutba.

Recalling the supreme sacrifice of Hazrath Ibrahim (AS) and Hazrath Ismail (AS), he urged the believers to emulate their example and lead a pious and obedient life. “The one big message this festival gives to all Muslims is that Allah is great. He has blessed us with immeasurable bounties including vision, hearing ability and speech. Our very existence is thanks to the bounties of God. When Allah has given us such bounties, we should also follow his commands. We should stay away from indulging in practices which are against the will of Allah. There is no need to earn our livelihood through illicit means, when Allah is the one who takes care of our Rizq,” he said.

Expressing deep regret about the disunity prevailing among the Muslims, he urged the believers to raise above groupism. “Unfortunately there are divisions in the community on the basis of organizations, fiqh and language. But we should know that whoever believes in the basic doctrine of Kalima is a Muslim. So we should display unity and integrity by breaking the barriers,” he said.

Large number of Muslims, including children, attended Namaz and Qutba at other masjids in the town, including Taqwa Masjid, Pumpwell, Kudroli Jod Masjid, Bolar Jumma Masjid, Kandak Badriya Masjid, Bengre Anas Masjid, Jeppu Badriya Jumma Masjid, Kandatpally, Nadupalli, and Moidin Masjid Kudroli.

At Kachi Masjid in Bunder, Maulavi Mohammed Ali led the Namaz and delivered Eid Qutbah. In Thokkottu Masjidul Huda, Mohammed Kunhi Maulavi led the prayer and delivered Qutba in Kannada.

At Masjudul Huda in Uppinangady, S.M. Basheer Maulavi, Kuwait, led the Eid Namaz and delivered Qutba in Malayalam.

Bengaluru, May 14: JD(S) leader HD Revanna has been released from Parappana Agrahara Jail today, on May 14 after he was granted conditional bail.

He was granted a conditional bail yesterday by a Bengaluru court in connection with a kidnapping case linked to sexual abuse allegation against him and his son Prajwal.

Revanna was arrested on May 4 by Special Investigative Team (SIT) officials in a kidnapping case registered against him at KR Nagar police station in the city. The case is linked to his son and Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna’s mega sex scam.

Representing the JD(S) MLA from Holenarsipura, he termed this case a "political conspiracy" against him.

A SIT, constituted by the Karnataka government, is probing the alleged sexual abuse against against HD Revanna and his son Prajwal Revanna.

Prajwal Revanna, the incumbent MP, is seeking another term from Hassan Lok Sabha constituency. The voting for the seat took place on April 26.

Earlier, JD (S) chief HD Kumaraswamy alleged that Karnataka government does not want a fair inquiry.

"They are misusing the office. Nothing is going to happen ultimately. They wanted character assassination of HD Revanna and for that reason, they are using their office," Kumaraswamy told ANI.

Meeting Karnataka Governor Tawara Chanda Gehlot on May 9, a delegation of the Janata Dal (Secular) submitted a memorandum and urged Gehlot to recommend a CBI probe.

Prajwal sill absconding

The JD(S) MP, Prajwal, fled to Germany after Karnataka State Commission for Women Nagalakshmi Chowdhary wrote to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah seeking an investigation into over obscene videos of Prajwal Revanna allegedly sexually abusing several women. He has also skipped summons issued by the SIT to appear before it.

The ‘obscene videos’ involving Prajwal Revanna started making the rounds ahead of the first phase of Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka on April 26, triggering a political slugfest.

A lookout notice against Prajwal Revanna has been issued at all airports in India, along with a Blue Corner notice. A Blue Corner notice issued by Interpol helps countries collect and share information regarding a person's location and their activities as part of a criminal investigation.

Mangaluru, May 3: The Mangaluru City Corporation will resort to water rationing from May 5 as the Thumbe vented dam, which supplies drinking water to the city, is facing a shortage in water storage.

Instead of daily supply, water will be supplied on alternate days, the Executive Engineer (Water Supply) at the corporation said in a release.

The release said that water will be supplied to Mangaluru City North on May 5. There will be no water supply to Mangaluru City North on May 6. Instead water will be supplied to Mangaluru City South on May 6. Likewise the supply on alternate days will continue.

The inflow in the Netravathi has stopped, the release said, requesting people to cooperate with the corporation and not waste water for washing vehicles and other purposes.

An engineer at the corporation said that water level at the dam stood at 4.27 m on Wednesday against the full storage level of 6 m. If water is supplied daily to the entire city (Mangaluru City North and Mangaluru City South) the existing storage will last only for 16 days, the engineer said. Hence the decision to supply water on alternate days has been taken to supply water till May-end.

Mangaluru, May 4: The Mangaluru International Airport was besieged with a harrowing message of terror recently, when an email, purportedly from malevolent elements, menacingly declared the planting of bombs within the airport premises.

Addressed to the office of the airport authority, the missive, steeped in ominous overtones, bore the ominous signature of a terrorist faction, ominously named 'Terrorizers 111'.

The communication, disseminated in English, ominously detailed the clandestine emplacement of explosives in areas eluding facile detection, accompanied by a chilling warning of their imminent detonation. The threat, ominously looming over not only the infrastructure but also the airborne vessels, portended a catastrophic deluge of bloodshed and loss.

In response to this dire communiqué, airport authorities swiftly engaged the apparatus of law enforcement, dispatching urgent alerts to the vigilant guardians of public safety. Acting upon the dictates of higher echelons, a formal dossier of this menacing correspondence was meticulously compiled, cloaked in the veil of confidentiality to thwart any premature dissemination.

Mangaluru International Airport found itself in grim camaraderie with more than 30 counterparts under the aegis of the Airport Authority of India (AAI) and private domains, all recipients of this chilling electronic diatribe. A comprehensive net of precautionary measures was swiftly cast, fortifying the bastions of security in anticipation of any nefarious designs lurking within the shadows.
