Police make headway in Kasargod youth murder case; two accused identified

Kasargod, Jul 9: Police have identified two youth in connection to the stabbing of a youth at J P Colony.

It may be recalled that T A Sabith, an employee at a clothe store was stabbed to death by miscreants who chased him in bike, while Sabith was going to a nearby playground with his friends Raees, couple of days ago.

Akshay (19) and Vaishakh are the main accused. The two are said to be directly involved in the case. Akshay has several cases including attempt to murder against him already.

The police sources say that the crime was executed by a gang of seven, of which two have been nabbed and information on the rest will be soon derived. The cops had taken some crucial information from Raees too.

Though Sabith was rushed to the hospital, he died there. As the news of death spread, it had fuelled a sense of tension in and around Kasargod. Buses and vehicles were damaged by angry mobs.

Shops remained closed and vehicles remained off road. Additional forces too had had been brought in from Kannur to control the situation. The situated returned to normalcy on Monday.

ADGP Shankar Reddy had visited the region on Monday morning. Kasargod SP P Rahul Nair, DySP Mohan Chandra among others too have visited the spot.

Mangaluru, Dec 7: A 34-year-old fruit and vegetable trader in Mangaluru has reportedly lost ₹33.1 lakh after falling victim to an online investment scam run through a fake mobile app.

Police said the scam began in September, when the victim received a link on Facebook. Clicking it connected him to a WhatsApp number, where an unidentified person introduced a high-return investment scheme and instructed him to download an app.

To build trust, the fraudster asked him to invest ₹30,000 on September 24. The trader soon received ₹34,000 as “profit,” convincing him the scheme was genuine. Over the next two months, he transferred money in multiple instalments via Google Pay and IMPS to different scanner codes and bank accounts shared by the scammers. Between September 24 and December 3, he ended up sending a total of ₹33.1 lakh.

When he later requested a refund of his investment and promised returns, the scammers demanded additional payments, claiming he needed to pay a “service tax” first. Even after he paid a small amount, no money was returned, and the scammers continued pressuring him for more.

A case has been registered at the CEN Crime Police Station.
