Mangalore, Mar 27: Indicating his indignation at opposition parties making a false allegation in connection with a row over allotment of a Bangalore Development Authority site, Minister for Health and Family Welfare U T Khader said that it was not right to make an allegation without verifying the veracity of the claim.
Addressing mediapersons at a press meet here on Thursday, he said that as per the Civic Amenity Sites notification that appeared in a newspaper seeking applications for the BDA site allotment for the year 2012-13, it was specified that the site in question would be allotted for an institute for physically and mentally challenged.
The notification clearly states that the particular site located in the South division under the authority (Banashankari VI Stage) was meant for this purpose. The application of the Kukke Subramanya temple trust seeking allotment of the site may have been discounted since the requirement of the site was specified as the construction of an information centre for pilgrims. Whereas, the U T Naseema Fareed Memorial Chariatble Trust run by my brother, applied for the site for setting up an institute for differently-abled. Hence, the BDA site was allotted to this trust, making it clear that there was no involvement in obtaining the site either by me or the Trust,” clarified the minister.
Condemning the baseless allegation, Mr Khader said that it was an act of circulating negative publicity by the BJP, without verifying their claim. He also pointed out that notification had been published before he was made a minister in 2013, during the tenure of BJP government in the state.
Violation of code of conduct '
KPCC general secretary Ivan D 'Souza said that the allegation was a pre-planned and politically-motivated allegation made by BJP without ascertaining the facts beforehand. Even though the minister does not have ties with the Trust, the opposition party has made this allegation with the sole intention of maligning the Congress, he said.
He also said that it was a violation of moral code of conduct and a complaint would be filed with the deputy commissioner by the party members in this regard, along with necessary documents for proof.
Mr Khader had earlier expressed shock over the allegation and claimed that it was an attempt by opposition parties to tarnish his image and reputation.
Congress leaders Vijaykumar Shetty, Sadashiv Shetty and others were present on the occasion.
