Mangalore, February 7: Chicken Biryani, Rs380, Mutton Biryani Rs 400, Chilly Chicken Boneless Rs 350, and Mineral Water Rs 80 —if you thought this is part of a five-star hotel menu, you could be wrong.

This was the bill the chairman of Karnataka Minorities Development Corporation chairman N. B. Aboobaker allegedly ran for a single meal at the Chicken Inn Restaurant at Pandara Road, New Delhi at the expense of taxpayers, according to a report in Kannada Prabha.

As president of the statutory body, Mr Aboobaker is entitled to spend maximum Rs 300 per day for his expenses towards meals and beverages and Rs. 700 per day towards TA and DA. However, according to information obtained through a query under Right to Information, he has been overshooting the limit quite frequently.

However, Mr. Aboobaker has dismissed the allegations as baseless.

According to documents in possession of Amir Khan, an RTI activist, Mr. Abooabker has travelled to Bangalore and back 76 times by flight over the last two and half years that he has been president of the board. House rent, telephone, entertainment, diesel, flight tickets and tourism are his major expenses during this period. He ran a whopping Rs 11,12,749 for the year 2009-10 and Rs. 12,65,809 for 2010-11. The bill that he ran for 2011-12 (upto October) it was Rs 5,57,147.

Every year crores of rupees are set aside in the budget for the development of minorities. But unfortunately the personal expenses of the chairmen and staff of the boards and corporations seems to be eating away a huge part of this allocation. Mr. Aboobaker has also flown to Delhi, Agra and Mumbai several times, according to the data provided in the official reply, claimed Mr. Khan. He has also submitted a memoranda to Governor H.R. Bharadwaj and chief minister Sadananda Gowda seeking a crackdown on Mr. Aboobaker's alleged extravagant expenditure.

Mr. Khan also alleges that he has been victimised for speaking out and a complaint has been filed against him in the Cubbon Park Police station, Bangalore. He has sought a CID inquiry into the squandering of public money by Mr. Aboobaker and urged the government to recover it from him, besides stripping him of his office.

Mr. Aboobaker, however, has strongly denied the allegations and urged chief minister to take action against Mr. Khan for misguiding the media by providing false information.

Speaking to media persons at the press club in Bangalore, Mr. Aboobaker said, the basis for Mr. Khan's allegation was the bill footed by the Corporation for the dinner provided to officers who attended a meeting of the National Minorities Development Corporation in New Delhi.

“He (Khan) is trying to give an impression that I am spending Rs. 1,000 on a day-to-day basis. It is a hobby for him to harass government employees,” he said.

Guwahati: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday condemned the alleged sexual abuse of women involving Lok Sabha MP Prajwal Revanna, asserting that the BJP will not tolerate any insult to women.

Revanna (33) is the BJP-JD(S) alliance candidate for Hassan Lok Sabha constituency, which went to polls on April 26.

Earlier in the day, the JD(S) suspended Revanna from the party with immediate effect.

“The issue regarding Revanna that has been reported in the media is very hurtful and cannot be tolerated in any way,” Shah told a press conference here.

“The BJP’s stand is very clear; we will not tolerate any insult to ‘matri aur nari shakti’ (women empowerment),” he asserted.

Some explicit video clips allegedly involving Prajwal Revanna, the grandson of former prime minister H D Deve Gowda, were circulated in Hassan over the last few days.

The home minister said Congress has been alleging that an NDA partner’s candidate is involved in the incident, “but I just want to ask a small question - whose government is there in that state (Karnataka)?”

“The Congress is in power in Karnataka, and this matter must have come to their attention. Why has it not taken any action on it so far? We cannot take any action as law and order is a state issue,” Shah said.

Mangaluru, May 3: The Mangaluru City Corporation will resort to water rationing from May 5 as the Thumbe vented dam, which supplies drinking water to the city, is facing a shortage in water storage.

Instead of daily supply, water will be supplied on alternate days, the Executive Engineer (Water Supply) at the corporation said in a release.

The release said that water will be supplied to Mangaluru City North on May 5. There will be no water supply to Mangaluru City North on May 6. Instead water will be supplied to Mangaluru City South on May 6. Likewise the supply on alternate days will continue.

The inflow in the Netravathi has stopped, the release said, requesting people to cooperate with the corporation and not waste water for washing vehicles and other purposes.

An engineer at the corporation said that water level at the dam stood at 4.27 m on Wednesday against the full storage level of 6 m. If water is supplied daily to the entire city (Mangaluru City North and Mangaluru City South) the existing storage will last only for 16 days, the engineer said. Hence the decision to supply water on alternate days has been taken to supply water till May-end.

Bagalkot, Apr 29: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday accused the Congress of planning religion-based reservation in the country for the sake of vote bank politics but asserted that he will not let it happen.

He said this Congress proposal is to appease minorities as the SC/ST and OBC community is now with the BJP.

"In Karnataka, Congress has started a campaign to change the Constitution and to snatch away the rights of SC/ST and OBCs. Our Constitution does not accept religion-based reservation. But the Karnataka government has given part of OBC reservation to Muslims," Modi said.

Addressing a mega election rally in this district headquarters town, he said, "They (Congress) will not settle with this. They had earlier too in their manifesto said about coming out with a law to provide religion-based reservation. There is a similar signal in their manifesto this time."

"I want to make my Dalit, SC/ST and OBC brothers and sisters aware about Congress' intentions. These people on the basis of religion, to keep their vote bank safe, are planning to loot your right which was given by Babasaheb Ambedkar and the Constitution," he added.

Veteran BJP leader B S Yediyurappa, BJP candidates and MPs from Bagalkot (Bagalkot) and Vijayapura (Bijapur) - P C Gaddigoudar and Ramesh Jigajinagi, respectively - were among those present at the rally.

Noting that most of SC, ST and OBC MPs in the Parliament are from BJP, Modi said, "So they feel that as SC, ST and OBC are with BJP. To gain the trust of minorities, they want to loot from SC, ST and OBC and give it to minorities. Will you let this happen?"

"I want to guarantee today to my Dalit, Adivasi and OBC brothers and sisters. I will not let such intentions of Congress be successful. To protect your rights, your reservation, Modi will go to any extent. I'm assuring you this," he added.
