Mangalore, December 19: Undeterred by the recent setbacks, scam-tainted former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa on Monday declared in the home district of incumbent CM DV Sadananda Gowda, that he was ready to take up the post again if his party's central leadership wanted him to lead the state.

“I had quit the CM post bowing to the party's demand and now I am prepared to take any responsibility bestowed by the party”, said the charismatic BJP leader, who participated in ongoing Vajapeya Somayaga at Nandagokula Goshale on Narahari hillock near Kalladka on the outskirts of the city for the second time in two weeks on Monday along with his confidante Shobha Karandlaje.

Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of yaga, he also reiterated that he would take up the CM's mantle if given a chance.

“I met BJP national leaders during my recent visit to New Delhi. They are convinced of my capabilities to lead the party and the state. If the central leadership wants me to become the CM again, I will do that," Mr Yeddyurappa said.

It can be recalled that last week, as many as 17 MPs submitted a memorandum to BJP national leaders L K Advani and Nitin Gadkari, seeking the CM's post for MR Yeddyurappa.

The MPs, owing allegiance to the first ever BJP CM of Karnataka, have been vociferous in their demand.

Though Yeddyurappa returned empty-handed from his Delhi trip, he was not disappointed.

"Apparently, Gadkari told him to wait for a month before any decision on reappointing him as the CM can be taken. He is confident of returning as the CM," his aides contended.

It is also said that Mr Yeddyurappa has been mounting pressure on the BJP central leadership from all quarters for the CM's post.

According to him, he is still worthy of returning as the CM because there are many leaders in the BJP, who are facing far more serious charges than him.

On Sunday the former CM at Dharmasthala had clarified that he would not quit the BJP if he was not reappointed as CM. "I am a loyal BJP worker. If the BJP wants me to bring back former minister B. Sriramulu to the party, I will take up that task also," he added.

Mangaluru, Dec 3: A group of Congress workers gathered at the Mangaluru International Airport on Wednesday to welcome AICC general secretary K C Venugopal, but the reception quickly turned into a display of support for Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar.

Venugopal arrived in the city to participate in the centenary commemoration of the historic dialogue between Mahatma Gandhi and Narayana Guru. The event, organised by the Sivagiri Mutt, Varkala, in association with the Mangalore University Sri Narayana Guru Study Chair, is being held on the university’s Konaje campus.

KPCC general secretary Mithun Rai and several party workers had assembled at the airport to receive Venugopal. However, the moment he stepped out, workers began raising slogans backing Shivakumar.

The university programme will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

This show of support comes just a day after Siddaramaiah remarked that Shivakumar would lead the government “when the high command decides.” The chief minister made the comment after a breakfast meeting at Shivakumar’s residence—another public display of camaraderie between the two leaders amid ongoing attempts by the party high command to downplay their leadership rivalry.

Mangaluru: In a significant step to curb online hate and intimidation, Mangaluru City Police have registered a suo motu case against multiple Instagram accounts accused of circulating alleged provocative and threatening content.

While monitoring social media activity on Tuesday, Kankanady Town PSI Anitha Nikkam identified the Instagram handle ‘team_targetttt_900’ for posting a hate message alongside images of lethal weapons. Another account, ‘team_nagara_900’, allegedly shared a threatening post targeting activist Bharath Kumdelu, tagging additional pages such as KARAVALI-OFFICIAL.

Several other accounts — including ‘immu_bhai.fan’, ‘target_boy_900’, ‘kings_of_manglore’, ‘team_target_boys.900’, ‘arshad_mangalore’, ‘target_ka19_ullal’, ‘team_target__’, ‘troll_tigersz_900’, ‘tr_group_900’, and ‘team_target_900’ — are also under scrutiny for spreading similar inflammatory material, police said.

Authorities have urged citizens, especially young social media users, to report suspicious pages and avoid engaging with groups that glorify violence or threaten individuals. Online hate can quickly escalate into real-world harm, and police stress that sharing or promoting such content can attract legal consequences.

Puttur: The long-cherished dream of a government medical college in Puttur has moved a decisive step closer to reality, with the Karnataka State Finance Department granting its official approval for the construction of a new 300-bed hospital.

Puttur MLA Ashok Kumar Rai announced the crucial development to reporters on Monday, confirming that the official communication from the finance department was issued on November 27. This 300-bed facility is intended to be the cornerstone for the establishment of the government medical college, a project announced in the state budget.

Fast-Track Implementation

The MLA outlined an aggressive timeline for the project:

•    A Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the hospital is expected to be ready within 45 days.

•    The tender process for the construction will be completed within two months.

Following the completion of the tender process, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is scheduled to lay the foundation stone for the project.

"Setting up a medical college in Puttur is a historical decision by the Congress government in Karnataka," Rai stated. The project has an estimated budget allocation of Rs 1,000 crore for the medical college.

Focus on Medical Education Department

The MLA highlighted a key strategic move: requesting the government to implement the hospital construction through the Medical Education Department instead of the Health and Family Welfare Department. This is intended to streamline the entire process of establishing the full medical college, ensuring the facilities—including labs, operation theatres, and other necessary infrastructure—adhere to the strict guidelines set by the Medical Council of India (MCI). The proposed site for the project is in Bannur.

Rai also took the opportunity to address political criticism, stating that the government has fulfilled its promise despite "apprehensions" and "mocking and criticising" from opposition parties who had failed to take similar initiatives when they were in power. "Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has kept his word," he added.
