Concern over bush fires in Mangalore University campus

Mangalore, December 25: The frequent occurrence of bush fires at the campus of Mangalore University in Konaje on the outskirts of the city has become a source of concern for the authorities and nearby residents.

A large number of plants and trees were destroyed on Saturday, as unknown miscreants allegedly set fire on plantation area.

According to sources, the arsonists set fire on multiple places in the area simultaneously causing difficulty to the fire brigade personnel to douse them.

The locals, who first noticed the bush fire informed Konaje police station. After a prolonged effort by police and fire service personnel, the fire was brought under control.

There are complaints that some miscreants are deliberately setting fire in the university campus, which is around 350 acres. A forest official said that almost all the bush fires occurred in this area were man-made.
