Mangalore, December 31: Women's team of Mangalore University bagged the All India Inter-University Ball Badminton Championship 2011-12 in Moodbidri on the final day of the four-day tournament on Friday.
The team from Anna University, Chennai, emerged runner up. SRM University's team from Chennai secured third position.
M.K. Savitha, captain of the host Mangalore University's team, bagged the Best All Rounder Award of the tournament. In the league match, Mangalore University beat Anna University by 16-29, 29-28 and 29-8.
SRM University beat University of Madras by 29-25, 25-29, and 29-17.
Registrar (administration) of Mangalore University K. Chinnappa Gowda gave away the prizes.
Praveen Kumar, member of the organising committee of the tournament and coach of Mangalore University's team, said that women's team of Mangalore University was the runner up in the national inter-university women's ball badminton championship 2010-11 held at SRM University in Chennai. Women's team of Anna University was the champion.
