Dr. MV Shetty memorial cricket tourney concludes

Mangalore, January 19: The second and final day of the 17th Dr. MV Shetty Memorial Inter-Physiotherapy Colleges Cricket Tournament for boys and girls (State Level) experienced an array of matches in which both the boys and girls teams of the participating colleges battled it out to make their places in the final match on Wednesday at NMPT ground, Panambur, near here.

The winners of the tournament for the boy's fixtures were Srinivas College and the runners up were Laxmi College of Physiotherapy. In the girl's fixtures the winner was Dr. MV Shetty College of Physiotherapy and the runners up was Father Muller's College of Physiotherapy.

The tournament concluded with the prize distribution by the chief cuest Vijaya Kumar Shetty, Ex-MLA Suratkal and Dr. Ranjith Shetty, trustee Dr. MV Shetty Trust with Dr. Poornima Raman, Physiotherapist, National Women Swimming team as guest of honour.

Best fielder male was given to Tanay of Shree Devi College of Physiotherapy and best fielder female was given to Melini of Father Muller College of Physiotherapy.

Best Bowler male was given to Najumel of Laxmi College of Physiotherapy and for female to Melini of Father Muller College of Physiotherapy.

Best batsman to Jignesh of Shrinivas College of Physiotherapy and best batswoman was awarded to Maria from Dr. MV Shetty College of Physiotherapy.

All-rounder man for the tournament was Vijayannand of Srinivas College of Physiotherapy and among women Sarika of Dr. MV Shetty College of Physiotherapy was given the award.

Dr. MV Shetty Cup for 17th Dr. MV Shetty Memorial Inter-Physiotherapy Colleges Cricket Tournament was bagged by girls cricket team of Dr. MV Shetty College of Physiotherapy and Father Muller's College Physiotherapy was the runner up.

Vote of Thanks was given by Dr. UT Ifthikar Ali, Convener, 17th Dr. MV Shetty Memorial Inter-Physiotherapy College Cricket Tournament.

‘Nothing for Karnataka’: DKS slams Union Budget, flags Bengaluru neglect

Bengaluru: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Sunday criticised the Union Budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, claiming it offered no tangible benefit to the state.

Though he said he was yet to study the budget in detail, Shivakumar asserted that Karnataka had gained little from it. “There is no benefit for our state from the central budget. I was observing it. They have now named a programme after Mahatma Gandhi, after repealing the MGNREGA Act that was named after him,” he said.

Speaking to reporters here, the Deputy Chief Minister demanded the restoration of MGNREGA, and made it clear that the newly enacted rural employment scheme — VB-G RAM G — which proposes a 60:40 fund-sharing formula between the Centre and the states, would not be implemented in Karnataka.

“I don’t see any major share for our state in this budget,” he added.

Shivakumar, who also holds charge of Bengaluru development, said there were high expectations for the city from the Union Budget. “The Prime Minister calls Bengaluru a ‘global city’, but what has the Centre done for it?” he asked.

He also drew attention to the problems faced by sugar factories, particularly those in the cooperative sector, alleging a lack of timely decisions and support from the central government.

Noting that the Centre has the authority to fix the minimum support price (MSP) for agricultural produce, Shivakumar said the Union government must take concrete steps to protect farmers’ interests.
