Mangalore, February 4: The medical researches need not necessarily take place in prestigious, well infrastructures research centres and institutes, rather genuine willingness to research and find something new, can make medicos to research even in the ordinary condition, said Tata Memorial Cancer Institute (Mumbai) Director Dr Anil D'Cruz.

He was delivering a talk on “Moulding Medicos to Medical Research” at the inaugural function of 'Medicine Update-2012,' a three-day symposium organised by the Department of Medicine and Medical Specialities of Fr Muller Medical College at Knowledge Centre on Friday. Dr D'Cruz encouraged the medicos to take up researches by stating the examples of James Lind who was the first medical researcher in the world to perform research in the adverse condition in 1700s and of Dr H S Bhanaskar from Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra who despite being a small town researcher has conducted some of the best researches. He said that some of the greatest researches in medicine have come up in adverse conditions.

Pointing at the failure of medicos in offering best treatment to the patients, Dr Anil said that the type of treatment offered to the cancer patients in Mumbai and Chennai is different. “If the doctors cure cancer patients by conducting surgery in Mumbai hospitals, on the contrary in Chennai majority of the cancer patients are treated with radio therapy. Each doctor sticks to a notion that whatever treatment he is offering is good, but then a doctor should think in terms of the treatment that is best for the patient,” he insisted.

He also gave a call to the medicos not to ignore the outcome of the researches while treating the patients. The doctors tend to disregard several research outcomes the result of which was later shown on the patients, he said.

Earlier inaugurating the function, former Lokayukta Justice N Santhosh Hegde asked the medical students and doctors to be true to their profession. Of late, the Hippocrates oath the medical students take while stepping to the field seems like taking hypocrite oath. There is difference between being a person and being a human. The doctors need to be human and provide self less service to the society, he said. He also stressed on the necessity to improve the condition of rural hospitals and insisted the doctors to change their attitude.

FMCI Director Fr Patrick Rodrigues presided over. Dr Sundar Bhat and Prof Narasimha Hegde from Fr Muller Institution were felicitated on the occasion for completing their 25 years service in FMCI.

Guwahati: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday condemned the alleged sexual abuse of women involving Lok Sabha MP Prajwal Revanna, asserting that the BJP will not tolerate any insult to women.

Revanna (33) is the BJP-JD(S) alliance candidate for Hassan Lok Sabha constituency, which went to polls on April 26.

Earlier in the day, the JD(S) suspended Revanna from the party with immediate effect.

“The issue regarding Revanna that has been reported in the media is very hurtful and cannot be tolerated in any way,” Shah told a press conference here.

“The BJP’s stand is very clear; we will not tolerate any insult to ‘matri aur nari shakti’ (women empowerment),” he asserted.

Some explicit video clips allegedly involving Prajwal Revanna, the grandson of former prime minister H D Deve Gowda, were circulated in Hassan over the last few days.

The home minister said Congress has been alleging that an NDA partner’s candidate is involved in the incident, “but I just want to ask a small question - whose government is there in that state (Karnataka)?”

“The Congress is in power in Karnataka, and this matter must have come to their attention. Why has it not taken any action on it so far? We cannot take any action as law and order is a state issue,” Shah said.

Hassan MP and Lok Sabha election candidate of the BJP-JD(S) alliance Prajwal Revanna, who is facing an inquiry over the alleged sexual abuse of several women, said the truth will prevail.

The MP, who left the country as soon as the election to his constituency ended, has also sought seven days' time to appear before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed by the Karnataka government to inquire into the huge cache of about 3,000 explicit videos and photos allegedly pertaining to him, which have gone viral on social media.

“As I am not in Bangalore to attend the enquiry, I have communicated to CID Bangalore through my advocate. Truth will prevail soon,” Prajwal, grandson of former prime minister and JD(S) patriarch H D Deve Gowda, said in a post on X.

A case has been registered against MLA and former minister H D Revanna and his son Prajwal at Holenarasipura on a complaint lodged by their former cook and relative for allegedly sexually harassing her.

She also alleged that Prajwal made video calls to her daughter and spoke in an objectionable manner, which forced her to block him.

The MP who is seeking re-election from Hassan on a JD(S) ticket, shared a letter by his lawyer Arun G to the Deputy Superintendent of Police of the SIT, in which he has sought seven days' time to appear before the official because he is abroad.

Mangaluru, May 4: The Mangaluru International Airport was besieged with a harrowing message of terror recently, when an email, purportedly from malevolent elements, menacingly declared the planting of bombs within the airport premises.

Addressed to the office of the airport authority, the missive, steeped in ominous overtones, bore the ominous signature of a terrorist faction, ominously named 'Terrorizers 111'.

The communication, disseminated in English, ominously detailed the clandestine emplacement of explosives in areas eluding facile detection, accompanied by a chilling warning of their imminent detonation. The threat, ominously looming over not only the infrastructure but also the airborne vessels, portended a catastrophic deluge of bloodshed and loss.

In response to this dire communiqué, airport authorities swiftly engaged the apparatus of law enforcement, dispatching urgent alerts to the vigilant guardians of public safety. Acting upon the dictates of higher echelons, a formal dossier of this menacing correspondence was meticulously compiled, cloaked in the veil of confidentiality to thwart any premature dissemination.

Mangaluru International Airport found itself in grim camaraderie with more than 30 counterparts under the aegis of the Airport Authority of India (AAI) and private domains, all recipients of this chilling electronic diatribe. A comprehensive net of precautionary measures was swiftly cast, fortifying the bastions of security in anticipation of any nefarious designs lurking within the shadows.
