Mangalore, February 29: Former Malaysian deputy Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who landed in the city on Wednesday, expressed confidence that he would become the next prime minister of Southeast Asian nation.
In an informal chat with media persons at Mangalore Airport before heading to Puttur to participate in a private programme, Mr Ibrahim predicted that opposition would sweep next general elections in Malaysia under his leadership.
Laying emphasis on the importance of bilateral ties between India and Malaysia, Mr Ibrahim said that fostering relationship in the field of tourism and commerce with India would be among his priorities.
Admiring India's penchant for democracy, the optimistic politician, who heads a three-party coalition that includes Islamists and an ethnic Chinese party, said that his country has to learn lesson from India as far as democracy is concerned.
