Mangalore, March 4: Security was tightened at Mangalore Centre Railway Station following an anonymous hoax bomb call on Saturday.

The caller had claimed that the Railway Station would be blown off, as a bomb was placed in one of the trains reaching there.

Immediately after the call, the police stepped up vigilance around the railway station.

Mangalore city police, leaving nothing to chance, beefed up security and pressed the dog squad into action. They also placed metal detectors at the entry and exit points of the Mangalore Central Railway Station.

Officials at Railway Station said that while they were comfortable with their security arrangement, there was no harm in taking extra precautions. "It's probably nothing. But we decided to beef up our security a notch higher. There is no harm in being extra cautious when the lives of people are at stake," said an official.
