Mangalore varsity gearing up for manage fest 'Magnum 2012'

Mangalore, March 28: Magnum 2012, a two-day national-level Commerce and Management Fest will be held by the Department of Studies in Commerce, Mangalore University from Thursday.

PG students pursuing M Com and MBA all over India are expected to participate in the festival to be held at Yakshagana Kala Mandir ,Mangalagangothri, Konaje.

A number of events will be held during the festival. A few of them are Delta- Ice breakers, Destiny – Business Quiz, Aspire- Human Resource Management, Safari- Marketing, Desert Storm – Finance Event and Warfare – Best Manager.

The inauguration of Magnum 2012 will be held in the presence of Shivashankaramurthy, Vice Chancellor of Mangalore University, Vasanth Kumar Perla, Programme Director, All India Radio and A Raguhram , Chairman- Department of Commerce, Dean of faculty of commerce and syndicate member of Mangalore University.

The valedictory function will be held on March 30, 2012 at 5.30 pm at the same venue on Friday. K Chinnappa Gowda, Registrar , Mangalore University and Mr Subrahmanyam, Senior Engineer , Training centre ,MRPL , Mangalore will be the guests of honour.

The function will be followed by a cultural evening which will showcase the various talents of the students. It will be a musical treat for the students and will feature live performance by Boyzone and students of Mangalore University.

Mangaluru police have arrested a 27-year-old NRI on his return from Saudi Arabia in connection with an Instagram post allegedly containing derogatory and provocative remarks about the Hindu religion, officials said on Monday.

The accused, Abdul Khader Nehad, a resident of Ulaibettu in Mangaluru, was working in Saudi Arabia when the post was uploaded, police said.

A suo motu case was registered at the Bajpe police station on October 11 after an allegedly offensive post circulated from the Instagram account ‘team_sdpi_2025’. Police said the content was flagged for being provocative and derogatory in nature.

During the investigation, technical analysis traced the Instagram post to Nehad, who was residing abroad at the time, a senior police officer said. Based on these findings, a Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued against him.

On December 14, Nehad arrived from Saudi Arabia at Calicut International Airport in Kerala, where he was taken into custody on arrival. Police said further investigation is underway.
