SSLC examination begins

Mangalore, April 2: SSLC examinations started across the state on Monday. Tensed students around the examination centres were seen making last minute preparation prior to entering their respective examination halls in the morning.

As per the rules, candidates entered the examination examination centres half an hour before the commencement of the examinations.

In Dakshina Kannada district, as many as 33,885 candidates are slated to appear for the examinations. Of them, 17,486 are boys and 16,399 girls. The number includes 31,453 freshers and 2,432 repeaters.

The examinations are being held at 95 examination centres in the district. Bantwal taluk has 15 centres, Belthangady 10, Mangalore city 20, Mangalore Rural 25, Moodbidri four, Puttur 15, and Sullia six centres.

Two vigilance squads have been set up. There are six evaluation centres in Mangalore city.

Among the 421 schools of the district, 155 are government schools, 107 aided and 151 unaided schools along with 8 residential school and JTS schools, according to a press release issued by the district administration.

Prohibitory orders

Deputy Commissioner N S Chennappa Gowda has clamped prohibitory orders within 200 metre radius of the SSLC examination centres during the examination to avoid any untoward incidents.

As per the prohibitory orders, all the photocopying centres within the 200 meter radius of the examination centres should be closed half an hour before the examination.

Exam schedule

The exams would be held from 10.30 am to 1.45 pm from April 2 to 16. The first exam would be of Kannada, followed by science on April 5. Mathematics on April 9, English on April 11, Hindi on April 13, social science would be the last exam on April 16.

Air India Express brings back Mangaluru–Muscat direct flights from March 2026

Mangaluru, Dec 15: Air India Express has announced that it will resume direct flight services between Mangaluru and Muscat from March 2026, restoring an important international air link for passengers from the coastal region.

Airport authorities said the service will operate twice a week—on Sundays and Tuesdays—from March 1. The initial flights are scheduled on March 3, 8 and 10, followed by March 15 and 17, with the same operating pattern to continue thereafter. The flight duration is approximately three hours and 25 minutes.

The Mangaluru–Muscat route was earlier operated under the 2025 summer schedule, with services beginning on July 14. At that time, Air India Express had operated four flights a week before suspending the service.

Officials said the summer schedule will come into effect from March 29, after which changes in flight timings and departure schedules from Mangaluru are expected. Passengers have been advised to check the latest schedules while planning their travel.

The resumption of direct flights to Muscat is expected to significantly benefit expatriates, business travellers and others, further strengthening Mangaluru’s air connectivity with the Gulf region.
