Sachin Premanand Gowda, however, has escaped the jaws of death narrowly and is undergoing treatment at the government hospital in Ankola.
According to parents Premanand and Hema, the couple along with Sachin were sleeping on the verandah as their house was under repair. The house is situated on the edge of forest and to their utter shock, they found Sachin bitten by a panther at 5 am.
Sachin who was in deep sleep could not realize what was happening and screamed for help. The panic-struck panther left the boy and ran away only to come back with more ferocious manner. During its second attack on Sachin the panther bit the neck of Sachin and dragged him for some distance towards the forest. It injured him on his face by the nails, the parents said.
Sachin's parents said that they raised alarm and screamed for help, which made panther retreat into the forest. Sachin bled profusely and was admitted to the hospital, where he is now stated to be out of danger.
Uday D. Naik Vice President of Uttara Kannada district Zilla Panchayat visited the hospital and consoled the partners of Sachin.
