Dr Mohammed Yusuf, chairperson of Karnataka Board of Auqaf, passes away

Bengaluru, Aug 7: Dr Mohammed Yusuf, chairperson of the Karnataka State Board of Auqaf, passed away at a private hospital in the city today following a brief illness. He was 74.

Dr Yusuf was an industrialist and was known for his philanthropic activities. 

A veterinarian, Dr Yusuf had quit the government job and set up business in Bengaluru and Dubai decades ago and has earned considerable success.

He was re-elected as Board of Auqaf chief in January this year. He had held the post more than once in the past. 

He will be buried at the graveyard near Masjid-e-Muzammil which was built by himself at Govindapura, source said.

Mangaluru, Sep 26: A half decomposed body of a woman was found at a house at Belleri, near Konaje on the outskirts of the city.

The deceased has been identified as Kusuma (50). It is suspected that she was murdered three days ago. Her body was found lying on the floor today.

She used to stay alone at her home. Police are of the suspicion that the woman might have been raped before getting killed. 

A case has been registered at Konaje police station and investigations are on.

Mangaluru, Sept 26: Film Actress cum TV anchor Anushree on Saturday arrived at Panambur police station to dispose herself before the Central Crime Branch (CCB) sleuths investigating into multi-crore drug menace.

Anushree hails from Mangaluru and is now settled in Bengaluru. Mangaluru Police had arrested actor and choreographer Kishore Aman Shetty and his friend Akeel on Sep 19. Since then the police had started tracking his drug links in the city.

Police said that the notice was issued as she knew Kishore Aman Shetty and also Tarun very closely. The Mangaluru police team which had been to the residence of Anushree in Bengaluru handed over the notice.

The ongoing probe of the scandal has left many in the film industry shocked as a number of celebs have come under the scanner. Earlier this week, three TV stars Geetha Bharathi Bhat, Abhishek Das, and Rashmitha Changappa had appeared before the ISD for questioning regarding their alleged connection with the ongoing probe regarding the drug scandal.

While Rashmitha confirmed that she had already appeared before ISD for primary interrogation the previous week, Abhishek Das and Geetha appeared on September 22 for investigation at the ISD office in Bangalore.

New Delhi, Sept 18: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa urged Defence Minister Rajnath Singh over call on Thursday to set up an independent laboratory of the Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) in Shivamogga.

As per an official release, the Ministry of Defence has considered his proposal for establishing a research cell of the DRDO at Kuvempu University.

"The state is expecting a full-fledged independent DRDO Laboratory in Shivamogga with ample number of Scientists and Technocrat," said Yediyurappa

Further, the Chief Minister said that the laboratory can explore natural remedial measures for military use from the Western Ghats.

The state government will provide the land required for the construction of the laboratory as well as the official quarters for the personnel.
