Four of a family missing after heavy rain triggers landslides in Kodagu

Madikeri, Aug 6: Heavy rainfall triggered landslides at Brahmagiri hills in Talacauvery in Kodagu on Thursday.

Four members of the Talacauvery temple priest family are missing in the landslides informed Annies Kanmani Joy, Kodagu DC.

She also informed that Advanced Rescue Team has been rushed to incident site.

According to the reports, houses belonging to two priest families were destroyed in the incident. 

However, one house was vacant as family had moved to Bhagamandala.

Visuals from Kodagu showed a flood-like situation, with houses and vehicles submerged under rainwater.

Meanwhile, heavy rains continued to lash Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Chikkamagaluru districts on Thursday.

Bengaluru, Sept 17: Rajya Sabha MP and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Karnataka leader Ashok Gasti passed away in Bengaluru on Thursday. He was admitted to a hospital in the capital city on September 2 after he tested positive for coronavirus (Covid-19).

The BJP leader who had also served as the chairman of Karnataka Backward Classes commission had taken oath as a Rajya Sabha MP on July 22 this year.

Gasti is credited for organizing the BJP in Raichur district of Karnataka. A member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) he rose through the ranks as an activist of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). He joined BJP when he was 18-years-old and headed the Yuva Morcha of Karnataka BJP.

Shivamogga, Sept 24: Three members of a family were killed on the spot after a car, in which they were travelling, dashed against an electric pole and came in contact with live wire on Thursday.

Police said the deceased were identified as Lohit (34), Kalavathi (60), and Shankar (8).

The victims were returning after a pilgrimage to Dharmasthala, when the mishap took place.

Police have registered a case and are investigating.

Bengaluru, Sept 19: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa on Saturday said that he had a successful visit to Delhi and was sure that he would get the necessary funds for development works of the state.

"I met with the Prime minister and cabinet ministers in Delhi. I brought to his notice the developmental works of state and he assured me that he would look into it. If I were to describe my visit to Delhi in one sentence, I would say - It was a successful visit to Delhi," Yediyurappa told the media on his return to Bengaluru.

He added, "I am sure that we will get a solution to the problems of the state and get funds for developmental works. I also spoke to JP Nadda, the BJP National President about cabinet expansion, and am waiting for their instructions." (ANI)

Earlier on Saturday, the Chief Minister had also met with Vice President Venkaiah Naidu in the national capital to convey all demands and requests of the state.

"The Vice President was in a hurry to go to the session. That's why I met him for 5-6 minutes. But the next time, I'll meet him for half an hour. I have conveyed all demands and requests of the state. Most of the demands have been fulfilled this time," he said.
