IMA scam: CBI raids former minister Roshan Baig's house in Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Nov 23: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officials conducted a raid at the residence of ex-minister and former MLA of Shivaji Nagar constituency, R Roshan Baig near Coles Park in Pulakeshinagar in the early hours today.

Baig, a disqualified member of Congress was arrested on Sunday in connection with the multi-crore Ponzi scam of I-Monetary Advisory (IMA).

CBI officials took a search warrant from the court and a team of more than 10 officials conducted the raid and are verifying the electronic gadgets and documents. The search is going on, and family members are also being questioned, the officials may produce him before the court today seeking his police custody. 

Baig was remanded to judicial custody, before producing him before the magistrate the officials had inquired him for a few hours. He is lodged in the quarantine cell of Parappana Agrahara Central Jail.

Baig's name surfaced in the scam soon after it came to limelight in June last year. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed by the state government had questioned him before the case was handed over to CBI.

Recently a special officer verifying the claims of the victims of the scam wrote to the Revenue Department stating that Baig appeared to be a promoter of IMA and it's business.

The officials also have found that Baig had connections with IMA chief Mohammed Mansoor Khan. CBI had already filed a charge sheet against few accused including government officials.

Kalaburagi, Jan 12: Karnataka Minister for Women and Children Welfare Shashikala Jolle here on Tuesday said that the state government has proposed to open women welfare centres across the state to take care of them.

Addressing presspersons here, Minister Shashikala said that the government has already sanctioned women welfare centres in 29 districts of the state and they would be constructed in district headquarters.

She said that the process of construction of Welfare Centers have already started in some of the districts wherever land was available

Minister Jolle said the government has instructed officials of police, revenue and women and children welfare departments to give immediate attention to cases of atrocity against women.

She agreed that there are reports of an increase of child marriages during the lockdown period in North Karnataka but, the officials have prevented many of the child marriages in different districts, she said.

Minister said that the government has given stress to implement "Poshana Abhiyan" launched by the Union Government and already the work of distribution of smartphones have been given to Anganwadi Workers and Supervisors to monitor the growth of the children in state Anganawadis, she said.

Udupi, Jan 4: A pedestrian knocked down by a speeding car at Kirimanjeshwara along NH 66 in Udupi’s Byndoor succumbed to injuries.

The accident took place around 8.40pm when Buddivantha Nayari was waiting to cross the road along a bus bay when a Jaguar coming from Kundapur moved to the extreme right and hit Nayari.

The driver took a grievously injured Nayari up to Trasi in the Jaguar where he was shifted to a private ambulance. 

However, the victim had breathed his last by the time the ambulance reached Arehole Cross and the doctors declared Nayari brought dead to the hospital. 

Nayari is a resident of Nagoor. Police have registered a case of causing death by negligence (304A IPC) against the car driver and seized the luxury car as part of investigation.

Hubli, Jan 13: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister Govind Karajola on Tuesday said the state has so far suffered a loss of more than Rs 60,000 crore due to heavy floods.

The state further suffered losses by not reaching the target in collecting Taxes due to the fracturing of financial activities because of the COVID-19 Pandemic, noted Mr Karajola, who is also the State Minister for Public Works department.

He said as a result, progress in developmental works could not be achieved as expected. However, the financial activities were slowly picking up and works would now be taken up gradually.

Speaking to newspersons in Gadag, Mr. Karajola said that Rs 100 crore will be granted for the development of State Highways in four Assembly Constituencies of Gadag District, while converting a distance of 360 km of District Roads into State Highways.

Mr Karajola said that due to shortage of Engineers, the works on the developmental Projects are not progressing with the anticipated speed. Therefore, Trainee Engineers will be appointed as a stop gap Arrangements to maintain the tempo of the works.

He also said that works were in progress in different parts in the district under the Rs 367.50 crores Project, including building of Roads, Flood control-related works, buildings and dam, apart from 72 km of roads in the district.

In addition, a total of 60.47 km of roads are being laid in different parts at an estimated cost of Rs 183.88 crore secured under the HSDP and CRF schemes, he added.

District In-charge and State Minister for Mines CC Patil and Legislative Council Member, SV Sankanur were present.

Referring to the rumours about Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa's leadership, Mr Karajola said Mr Yediyurappa was doing a great job as Chief Minister and there was no question of him being changed.
