Karnataka CM sanctions Rs 50 crore for emergencies due to rainfall

Bengaluru, Aug 6: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Wednesday asked the state chief secretary to take necessary steps in view of the rising rainfall in the state and gave instructions for releasing Rs 50 crore for emergencies.

"CM BS Yediyurappa has instructed Chief Secretary to take appropriate precautions in view of the rise in rainfall activity across the state. CM advised Chief Secretary to keep in touch with district officials and instructed to release Rs 50 crores for emergencies," an official release said.

India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert in a number of districts in the state.

CS Patil, Director, India Meteorological Department (IMD) Bengaluru said that red alert has been announced in Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada, Chickamagalur, Shivamogga, Kodagu and Hassan due to heavy rainfall in the region from last two-three days.

Bengaluru, Sept 23: Congress party in Karnataka on Wednesday accused Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa's family members of corruption and demanded his resignation.

Addressing a press conference here, Congress party's newly appointed party-in charge for Karnataka, Randeepsingh Surjewala claimed that "We have proof to pin-down Yediyurappa's family members on corruption charges".

Stating that the Congress party leaders in both the houses in the Karnataka Assembly and the Council, will raise

the corruption issues, he said that "Government should order for a probe to be investigated by a Special Team".

Accusing that the 'Union Government's Enforce Directorate (ED) seems to have closed its eyes' on Yediyurappa family's corruption. he said that "Transactions had been done in large sums and had been done through RTGS transfer".

Claiming that the state government is trying to cover-up the corruption in transactions, he said that "attempts also are being made to destroy the evidence".

The Opposition leader in the Karnataka Assembly K Siddaramaiah, who was also present on the occasion,said that "This government is most corrupt and I wonder what Prime Minister Narendra Modi would say".

"In the last 12 months, the corruption in Karnataka peaked" he said.

Accusing that there exist two Chief ministers in the state, he said that this government had not came through

people's mandate.

Congress party's opposition leader in the Karnataka Legislative Council, S R Patil, former KPCC president

Dinesh Gundu Rao and others were also present on the occasion.

Bengaluru, Sept 26: Karnataka Assembly has passed the amendment to the Land Reforms Act in the state on Saturday, according to the Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa.

Yediyurappa, in a tweet, said, "The Amendment to Karnataka Land Reforms Act passed in the Assembly today further empowers our farmers and strengthens their rights."

"While the Agricultural produce market committee (APMC) reforms ensured "My Produce, My Right", the land reforms ensures "My land, My Right" to all our Annadatas," it added.

The Karnataka Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council sessions will commence on September 30.

Udupi, Sep 24: A youth was hacked to death by a gang of miscreants at Hiriyadka in Udupi district in broad daylight today.

The deceased has been identified Kishan Hegde (34), a resident of Inna village in Udupi. He was said to be a rowdy-sheeter.

The incident took place when Kishan and another person were travelling in a car. They were chased by a gang on Udupi-Karkala highway and intercepted at Hiriyadka.

The gang escaped on the road leading towards Karkala after killing Kishan and damaging his car.

If sources are to be believed, some of the miscreants involved in the crime hailed from Kodikere, Mangaluru.

A case has been registered at jurisdictional police station and investigations are going on. Police have intensified checking on some routes to nab the culprits.
