Karnataka Congress leader Dinesh Gundu Rao tests covid-19 positive

Bengaluru, Sept 27: Congress leader and Karnataka Legislative Assembly member Dinesh Gundu Rao tested positive for coronavirus on Sunday. He will quarantine himself for the next 10 days.

Rao, in a tweet, said, "I have tested Corona positive today. Therefore will be quarantining myself for 10 days."

Congress leader has also urged the people, who have come in contact with him to get themselves tested for the virus.

"I request all my primary contacts to get themselves checked and take necessary precautions," he added.

Rao has attended the monsoon session of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, which began on September 21.

Earlier, Karnataka Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister JC Madhuswamy had said that all MLAs will be tested for COVID-19 on every fifth day of the functioning of the monsoon session.

Bengaluru, Oct 20: Karnataka's Transport Department has made helmets mandatory for all people riding on the two-wheelers and imposed a three-month suspension of driving license for non-compliance.

"As per new directives, helmets are mandatory for all two-wheeler riders who are over four years of age. State govt has imposed a 3-month suspension of driving license along with a penalty in case of violation," said State Department of Transport, Karnataka.

The state transport department has also issued a directive to strictly enforce the old rules for the safety of the riders.

As per the rule, Under the Central Motor Vehicle Act, motorcycle riders must wear a helmet. As per the Karnataka Motor Vehicle Rule, all bikers in the state wearing helmets are mandatory.

This new order comes after the Supreme Court's direction to the state's Road Safety Committee to strictly enforce the mandatory helmet-wearing rule for all persons traveling on two-wheelers in the state.

Kalaburagi, Oct 23: A police sub-inspector attached to Nelogi Police Station in Jewargi taluk of Kalaburagi, who was accused of posting photos and videos of a fake rescue operation conducted by him along with the help of villagers, was suspended on Friday.

Kalaburgi Superintendent of Police Semi Miriam George said that action was taken against police sub-inspector Mallannagouda Yalagod based on a preliminary inquiry report submitted to the department.

The police Sub-Inspector Mallannagouda Yalagod had attached a fake video and photos of helping villagers during the recent flood situation on the banks of river Bhima.

Mr Yalagod can be seen posing in a photo standing in floodwaters with two goats in his hand. The officer has made a series of such videos displaying filmy style behaviour.

Earlier, Mr Yalagod had come under the scanner of senior officers in the department when he celebrated his birthday on a grand scale during the lockdown in which his followers bathed him in milk.

The then Superintendent of Police Iada Martin Marbaniang had transferred him to the Superintendent of Police office from Nelogi Police Station, the source said.

Bengaluru, Oct 24: Samajwadi Party (SP) unit of Karnataka has announced to give unconditional support to candidates of Janata Dal (Secular) in the upcoming state assembly by-polls scheduled to be held on November 3.

"With the Karnataka By-Election on November 3-- SIRA and RR Nagar, We Samajwadi Party, Karnataka is wholeheartedly willing to give our unconditional support to JDS candidates. We are making every effort for the JDS Candidates winning at this point," Robin Mathews, State president of SP wrote in his letter to HD Kumaraswamy, JD (S) president.

"Also, we convey the best regards of Akhilesh Ji to you, sure we can open a new chapter as the people of Karnataka eager to see a perfect change and assuring our best to achieve," the letter added.

Sira in Tumakuru district along with Rajarajeshwari Nagar (R R Nagar) segment in the city will go for bypolls on November 3.

The Election Commission has said that the guidelines issued by it in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic are to be followed strictly during the by-polls.
