Mangalore, April 4: Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda on Tuesday promised to release Rs. 2 crore to Dakshina Kannada to ease drinking water crisis this summer.

He was holding a video conference with officials. Deputy Commissioner N.S. Channappa Gowda said that the district needed Rs. 2 crore to tackle water shortage. “That will not be a problem,” said Chief Minister from Bangalore.

The Deputy Commissioner said Kolnadu, Naringana, Vagga and Phajir villages in Bantwal and Mangalore taluks faced acute drinking water shortage. They were getting water through tankers now.

The Deputy Commissioner said after the water-level in the Thumbe vented dam went down, the authorities reduced the quantity of water being supplied to Mulky and Ullal.

The Chief Minister asked the deputy commissioners of all districts to hire diesel generators to operate pumps connected to borewells if there was disruption in power supply. The Deputy Commissioner could do so for two months for supplying water from borewells.
