Science exam fear drives SSLC student to suicide

Mangalore, April 4: A 16-year-old boy unable to cope with the pressure of on-going SSLC examination, committed suicide on Wednesday morning in the city.

The deceased has been identified as Ranjith, a class X student of St Joseph High School.

He ended his life by hanging himself at his residence at Jayanagara near Jalligudde , here. He was the second son among the three children of Raghava Poojary and Jayanthi couple.

The student took this extreme step a day after appearing for Mathematics examination. He was supposed to appear for Science examination on Thursday.

It is learnt that the door of Ranjith's room was closed from inside for a long time. When he did not respond for any call, the family members climbed on the roof and removed the tiles only to witness the dead boy hanging from the ceiling fan.

The boy had used his mother's saree to end his life.

Sources closed to Ranjith's family said that Ranjith had left a death note expressing his fear over forthcoming Science examination. Interestingly the death note instructed that his last rites be performed by his beloved aunt's 4-year-old son Kripala.

A case has been registered at Mangalore Rural Police Station.

Heading to Karavali Utsava? Check traffic changes and parking rules in Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Dec 20: The Mangaluru City Police have issued a detailed traffic advisory ahead of the inaugural ceremony of Karavali Utsava, which will be held at the Karavali Utsava Ground on Saturday.

The festival will be inaugurated at 6:00 pm by Dakshina Kannada District Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao. Cultural and public programmes will be held at the venue every evening and will continue until January 2.

According to City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy, parking of vehicles is strictly prohibited on both sides of the road from Lalbagh to Karavali Utsava Ground. Visitors are requested to park their vehicles only at designated parking areas.

To help the public, traffic signboards and parking guidance flex boards have been installed along the routes leading to the venue. The police have urged commuters and visitors to follow these instructions to ensure smooth traffic movement.

The police have appealed to the public to cooperate by following traffic rules and parking guidelines to avoid inconvenience during the festival.
