Cattle traffickers intercepted; 17 animals rescued

April 5, 2012
Mangalore, April 5: In an early morning operation in the city, a group of Bajrang Dal activists intercepted a vehicle in which cattle were allegedly being transported to slaughter house and rescued the animals.

It is learnt that Bajrang Dal activists, who came on several motorbikes, following an information of illegal cattle trafficking, waylaid a Bolero pickup vehicle at Lady Hill around 5:00 am on Thursday.

However, five people, who were on board the vehicle, managed to escape, leaving behind the vehicle and cattle.

The activists later handed over the vehicle along with 17 cattle including 10 cows, two buffaloes and five calves to Barke police station.

It is assumed that the cattle were being transported from Udupi to Kudroli.

A case has been registered at Barke police station.
