Mangalore, April 6: A VCD album of Mohammad Rafi songs rendered by budding singer Farha was released at the Press Club in Mangalore on Friday.

Harikrishna Punarooru, former president of Karnataka Sahitya Parishad, after releasing the album, said that budding talents like Ms. Farha should be encouraged and urged the people to listen to the songs sung by her and appreciate her effort.

Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, Chief of the Kalkura Foundation, said that Ms. Farha and her team have shown that even in Tulunadu, there are opportunities to come out with an album of songs with visuals and wished that she gets equal amount of acclaim and fame that Mohammed Rafi got.

Expressing her thoughts on the occasion, Ms. Farha who hails from Haveri said that she had been interested in singing right from her childhood. “I once took part in a singing competition and sang one of Mohammad Rafi's songs which was hugely appreciated. Mohammad Baddur who was the judge there, told me that I have the ability to go higher and advised me to sing more Rafi songs. He has been instrumental in bringing me to Mangalore from Haveri and giving me this opportunity”, she said.

Ms. Farha works as a computer education teacher at the Government Kannada Higher Primary School at Koda village of Hirekerur, Haveri district.

Mangaluru, Dec 15: Air India Express has announced that it will resume direct flight services between Mangaluru and Muscat from March 2026, restoring an important international air link for passengers from the coastal region.

Airport authorities said the service will operate twice a week—on Sundays and Tuesdays—from March 1. The initial flights are scheduled on March 3, 8 and 10, followed by March 15 and 17, with the same operating pattern to continue thereafter. The flight duration is approximately three hours and 25 minutes.

The Mangaluru–Muscat route was earlier operated under the 2025 summer schedule, with services beginning on July 14. At that time, Air India Express had operated four flights a week before suspending the service.

Officials said the summer schedule will come into effect from March 29, after which changes in flight timings and departure schedules from Mangaluru are expected. Passengers have been advised to check the latest schedules while planning their travel.

The resumption of direct flights to Muscat is expected to significantly benefit expatriates, business travellers and others, further strengthening Mangaluru’s air connectivity with the Gulf region.
