Mangalore, June 7: Vittal Malekudiya, a student of Masters in Mass Communication and Journalism in Mangalore University who is in judicial custody for his alleged naxal links, has moved the High Court, seeking bail and quashing of the First Information Report against him.
Vittal was arrested along with his father Lingappa Malekudiya by the Anti-Naxal Force on March 3, 2012.
He was taken into police custody for allegedly possessing naxal literature and paper cuttings of naxal activities in his residence. Having been booked under Section 10 and 13 of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and Section 121 of the IPC, Vittal was denied bail by the local court.But, the court had allowed him to write the examinations under police security.
Justice Subhash B Adi, who heard the matter, directed the State government to file objections and adjourned the hearing.
Meanwhile, Home Minister R Ashoka has said that his department has already obtained lot of information against Mangalore University student Vittala Malekudiya in the primary inquiry
Speaking to media persons during his visit to Kundapur to take part in the Legislative Council poll campaiagn on Wednesday, Mr Ashok said that further inquiry is taking place to collect more information.
“The department is carrying out thorough interrogation on the allegations faced by the arrested student”, he said.
