Udupi, June 7: Udupi-Chikmagalur MP K Jayaprakash Hegde has opined that Congress candidates would secure victory in the impending election to the Legislative Council.
Addressing media persons here he said that there was now a trend in favour of the Congress.
He said that each and every Congress worker is sure that party candidates S.P. Dinesh and Ramesh Joyappa would win the election to the Legislative Council from South-West Graduates' Constituency and South-West Teachers' Constituency, respectively.
Mr. Hegde said that he had campaigned for Mr. Dinesh and Mr. Joyappa in Udupi and Chikmagalur districts and had got good response from voters. The voters had told him that Mr. Dinesh had reached them all. Mr. Joyappa too was campaigning hard.
After the victory of the Congress in the byelection to the Lok Sabha from Udupi-Chikmagalur constituency, there had been a change in the attitude of voters and party workers, he said.
The party had not taken the previous elections to these seats seriously. But this time, it had put in all efforts. It started enrolling voters six months ago. Mr. Dinesh had done more enrolment of graduates, he said.
Mr. Hegde said even if BJP candidates D.H. Shankaramurthy and Ganesh Karnik misused administrative machinery and used the Department of Public Instruction for campaign, it would make no impact on voters.
