Manipal, June 12: G S Revankar, presiding officer of Fast Track Court, Udupi, opined that minor sex workers should also be brought to the ambit of the Prevention of Child Labour Act on the lines of child labours working in industries, hotels and other merchandise.
Speaking after inaugurating the World Anti Child Labor Day, at District Offices' Complex, End Point, here, on Tuesday he said that though there are laws and prgorammes for eradicating child labour system, they were not properly enforced and implemented in the country.
The programme was organised under the joint auspices of Legal Services Authority, Department of Women and Child Welfare and Association of Child Labours' Planning.
Prabhakar Sharma, Udupi ZP CEO, in his presidential address lamented that in many cases so called higher officials also encouraging child labour at their homes.
Commissioner of Udupi CMC Gokuldas Nayak, Deputy Director of Department of Women and Child Welfare Reeta Marta, Labour Officer KG Johnson, Project Officer of Association of Child Labour Planning Prabhakar Acharya, Labour Inspectors Jeevan Kumar, H Ramachandra and DDPI Nagendra Madhyastha were among those present.
