After mocking Cong’s Bhagya schemes, BJP promises the same with different names

Bengaluru, May 5: The Bharatiya Janata Party’s election manifesto appears to have copied some of the flagship programmes of the Congress government, with the names changed. The BJP leaders had often mocked Bhagya schemes of chief minister Siddiaramaiah-led government.

As an alternative to Anna Bhagya, it wants Anna Dasoha scheme that offers free region-specific food items to BPL families and subsidised food items to APL families.

In what appears to be a broader alternative to the Shaadi Bhagya scheme of the Congress government, the manifesto promises Vivaha Mangala Yojane under which poor women of all communities would get Rs. 25,000 cash assistance and 3 gm of gold for their marriage.

Similarly, as an alternative to the subsidised Indira canteens, the BJP manifesto promises to set up 300 Mukhyamantri Annapoorna canteens at a rate of three in every district and one in each taluk centre, to provide quality and affordable meals, with a focus on region-specific food

Mangaluru-origin techie, 26, dies after falling from 16th floor in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: A 26-year-old tech professional of Mangaluru origin died after allegedly falling from the 16th floor of a residential apartment in Bengaluru on Wednesday, police said.

The deceased has been identified as Nikshap Bangera, an electronics engineering graduate who had recently returned to India after completing his education in Europe and had begun working here. He was residing with his parents at Prince Town Apartments in Bengaluru’s Shettihalli area.

According to police, Nikshap’s father Kishore said his son called him around 5 am, informing him that he would return home soon. However, at about 8.30 am, the apartment association president, Ravi, contacted the family and asked them to come to the ground floor.

“When we went down, we saw that our son had fallen from the 16th floor of the apartment and died,” Kishore said.

Personnel from the Bagalagunte Police Station visited the spot and registered a case. Police said they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Officials further stated that Kishore informed them that Nikshap had been suffering from schizophrenia for the past few years. The body has been shifted to Victoria Hospital for post-mortem examination.

UT Iftikhar Ali calls on universities to ensure NEET-based Physiotherapy, OT admissions from 2026–27

The National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions (NCAHP) has announced that admissions to undergraduate programmes in physiotherapy and occupational therapy will henceforth be conducted exclusively through the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET).

In a press release issued by Prof. U. T. Iftikhar Ali Fareed, Chairman of the Karnataka State Allied and Healthcare Council, stated that the NCAHP has clarified the category-wise degree nomenclature and admission criteria for allied and healthcare undergraduate programmes, effective from the academic year 2026–27.

According to the notification, admissions to the Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) – Category 3 and Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (BOT) – Category 6 will be conducted only through NEET, in accordance with the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions Act, 2021.

All Vice-Chancellors of public, private, and deemed-to-be universities in Karnataka have been asked to ensure strict compliance with the NCAHP guidelines and to disseminate the information widely among affiliated colleges, faculty, and students.

Prof. Ifthikar Ali emphasized that universities must take necessary steps to implement the admission procedure for the academic year 2026–27 and subsequent years.
